There are supposedly 11,000 short term vacation rentals in San Diego, so many, in fact, that there is an active group trying to limit them. With all that competition, you might also look at sites like airbnb and vrbo.

Hopefully, just a little humor. San Diego region also has 55,000 hotel rooms, so I assume at certain times, they also are quite competitive. For the right person, controversies aside, renting a home or apartment may be a more sensible alternative.
