My family will be taking an RV trip from Las Vegas to Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef Park, Moab and Grand Canyon. We are first time RVers and we need a campgound in Moab.

We are traveling in June so we would like a pool for our boys ages 8 and 10 so they can cool off after a day of touring. We will be staying 3 nights and want full hookups (which rules out the National Park campgrounds).

We plan on seeing Arches, Canyonlands and doing a day rafting trip and maybe a hummer tour.

My internet searches have found Moab KOA, Portal RV and Slickrock. Any advice for us would be greatly appreciated.

FYI... we are planning on these RV parks too so if you think we are making a big mistake, please let me know:
Zion - Canyon Campground
Bryce - Ruby's Inn
Capitol Reef - Thousand Lakes RV Park

There are several RV parks in Moab, but I'm sorry I can't tell you if they have pools. I camp or stay at a B&B when I'm down there.

Try doing a search for "MOAB". There are 2 or 3 good tourist web sites that will list the RV parks.

One thing to be aware is the problem of driving and trying to park a RV in the parks. Zion and Bryce offer free shuttle buses, Bryce's is optional, Zion's is mandatory. In Capital Reef and Arches you're on your own. Parking an RV in Arches is a major problem. Taking a RV on the scenic drive in Capital Reef will depend on how long it is. I would suggest looking into a daily jeep rental in both places.

Too bad you have to have a pool, the national park campgrounds are so much nicer than RV parks, just my opinion.

We stayed 2 nights at Arch View RV park http://www.moab-utah.com/archview/archview.html It was a great location and very clean. The pool was never crowded, though not huge. All in all we would return here again.

Thansk for your replies! Since we are going to Moab in June we thought the pool was important for the kids to cool off in but more importantly thought the full hook up was extremely important for my husband who must have air conditioning!

Interesting comments about driving an RV through the parks. Our RV will be 25' - is that considered small enough to get around in. Since we are staying 3 nights in Moab, renting a jeep makes a lot of sense.

According to my 2002 Fodor's guide to the Rockies (which I happen to have at han since we are planning a very similar trip), Slickrock campground has "swimming" though a pool is not mentioned. Maybe there's a creek?

Slickrock has a pool and hot tub. It's an older campground but we like it because it also has a lot of shade trees. There aren't a lot of campgrounds in Moab that have pools!

I highly recommend renting a jeep in Moab. So many cool roads to drive on. That said, we have a 24 foot class A motorhome and don't have a problem driving it in any of the paved roads in the parks. There are a couple of dirt roads in Capitol Reef that are major areas. I know that others have drivein their RV's down those roads. Just be careful! They get flash floods and nothing is safe down these roads when they occur.

The Watchman Campground in Zion has electrical hook ups so you can run your air. The Virgin River is right there so the kids can have a cool place to play. There are no showers so you have to use the ones in the RV. There is a dump station.

The Fruita Campground in Capitol Reef is one of my FAVORITE campgrounds. It's in a nice shady area. We've been in the heat of the summer but never really missed the air.

Ruby's Inn is OK.
