Need help with quaint B/B or Inn in the Berkshires - last minute trip!

Hi - we've decided to spend a Friday/Saturday night in the Berkshires at the end of August. Now for the hard part....its the James Taylor weekend (unbeknownst to us) and so many of the places are already sold out. I've spent hours on websites and making phone calls to those places listed with no luck. Does anyone have an out of the way place they can recommend...one that would not be on a major B and B website or search engine. I'd rather not end up at a TravelLodge or Holiday Inn for this trip! thanks so much -

There is ONE room (double Queen) available for Fri/Sat at the Yankee Inn @ Lenox for $259/n for the Aug 28/29 weekend. http://www.yankeeinn.com/
No personal experience. I found this in my Fodor's New England guidebook.

Listing & Description here:

Have you considered staying somewhere further afield such as Stockbridge or even Great Barrington?

Try Old Inn on the Green in New Marlboro(sp) I have not stayed here but did eat here and it was lovely. It is a short drive from Great Barrington.

Even without James Taylor, this is a really busy time of year. Even chain motels are likely to be booked.

Look over the border in NY state. We stayed at a nice inn/restaurant in Hillsdale, NY, and it isn't any farther from Great Barrington than New Marlboro.

Did any of the places you called suggest anyplace else?

Anyone stayed at Field Farm?

How about visiting somewhere else for that weekend, and visit the Berkshires later in the year?

Did you try the Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield? Cant imagine that it is not sold out but worth a shot. Its the biggest hotel in the Berkshires.

http://www.berkshires.org/ has a search engine that will look for open rooms. There are some Inns listed on it with availability all over the County. I don't have experience with any of them so try Trip Advisor.

Have you looked in Williamstown? The Berkshires are pretty compact--it's not that difficult to get from one end to the other. The JT weekend is really a horrible time to be looking for a room. I cannot imagine the Yankee Inn, old and motel-ish, having a $259 rate ever! That in itself is a bad sign for availability, reasonable or otherwise, quaint or otherwise, around Lenox and vicinity.

Looks like we may go to NH now; I really don't want to pay upwards of $250 for a comfort inn or holiday inn express. we'll be in williamstown at the end of February anyway and will have time to see the various sites altho it won't be quite the same in winter.

I feel for you. In the past, we made reservations for weekends when there was anything we wanted to see at Tanglewood or Jacob's Pillow as soon as the season was announced. Ditto Glimmerglass/Cooperstown in NY.

We are lucky enough to have friends who have just bought in West Stockbridge but now we have to get in touch with _them_ to make a reservation!
