I don't know those hotels, bt I can recommend another at the very top of your range. The Hotel Pacific is very nice, a mission-style building not right in the fray of things but an easy walk to Fisherman's wharf. All the rooms have fireplaces, featherbeds, seating and dining areas, and a nice continental breakfast is included. They also have a garden patio and i think there's free afternoon tea. Rooms start at just about $200, but that's the rack rate; you certainly might be able to get in for slightly less. www.hotelpacific.com

I have seen both the Doubletree and the Embassy Suites in Monterey. I stayed at the Embassy Suites in Monterey not that long ago and it was the best Embassy Suites I've ever seen! The service is top and the facilities and services that they offer are even better. I would go to Embassy Suites over Doubletree any day.

Any more questions on Embassy Suites or the area please feel free to ask me.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you Jim for your reply.....A few more questions for you if you don't mind..Is Embassy Suites within walking distance from the beaches?? aquarium?? and Fishermans Wharf??? In other words how is the location of Embassy Suites in relation to Doubletree?? Is there an outdoor or indoor pool at Embassy?? How are the views from Embassy?? Are there any restaurants near Embassy or in within walking distance or on location??? Thank you very much for your help!! Carrie

First I forgot to include that the Embassy Suites Monterey was rated the TOP ten Embassy Suites property based on guest satisfaction, service, and facilities. Back to the original questions. The Embassy Suites is within walking distance to Seaside/Sand City beach which is a large beach with numerous sand dunes. This beach strethces I think down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. As far as location in comparison to Doubletree. The Doubletree is located right near or on Fisherman's Wharf although it's really located right near a tunnel which you take to get to the Monterey Downtown area. At Embassy Suites there is a spectacular indoor pool and whirlpool which I think is necessary to have especially in the evening hours when it cools down. Doubletree has an outdoor pool which doesn't appeal to me that much because of the outside air temperature. The views from Embassy Suites I would say aren't that bad since most all rooms overlook the Monterey Bay or Ocean. I know that the views from the glass elevators are spectacular on the 12th floor as are rooms that overlook the ocean on that floor. There are some restaurants near Embassy Suites. There is a Mc Donalds right across from it and further up the road (north) a small ways is a Taco Bell, Boston Market, in addition, a Target Store and many others which you will pass by before seeing Embassy Suites. While down in the Monterey downtown area there is numerous restaurants. When I was there I ate at Bubba Gumps Shrimp Factory which was very good and was located right by the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Any other questions please feel free to ask!

Have a great trip!
