need help planning a ski trip to Utah
We are planning a ski trip to Utah in early March. We skied there 30 years ago - Snowbird, Alta and Park City. We are taking our daughter and son in law so there are 4 of us. We are all proficent skiers. We need help planning - accommodation, best area to stay, best ski areas etc. Should we plan on a day in Park City? Would it be best to rent a condo around Snowbird? Thanks

66,
If you have skied here before (30 yrs ago), you are familiar with the drives required between the Cottonwood Canyon resorts and Park City. Not undoable at all, but it would take about 45 minutes between locations.
You will find much has changed!! I've been skiing and living in UT over the last 30 years too and it's all different now.
You should decide how much you want in the way of additional activities besides skiing. If you want a lot of nightlife and other things to do (don't plan to ski all day, every day), then stay in Park City.
If you are hard core skiers, stay at Snowbird.
There is more condo selection in the way of location and price in the Park City area than in Little Cottonwood, if that matters.
Park City does have 3 areas now. The Canyons, Park City Mtn Resort and Deer Valley.
Snowbird and Alta have a combination ticket available now so you can ski both in one day. Still no snowboards allowed at Alta (or Deer Valley).

I'd stay in Park City and ski two days at PC, two days at Deer Valley, and two days at the Canyons--but we like variety and not much driving.
The transportation system in PC is pretty good; last time we stayed at the Grand Galleria, which had a perfect loation--one door opened on Main St and the other was across the street from the transportation center.

We rented a private home in Park City a couple of Christmases ago, and I would definitely opt for staying in town. After skiing (Park City ski area was around the corner, literally, from the house), we could taje a 10minute walk or a quick drive into town for dinner, walking around, a drink, shopping, whatever. I guess you could drive in from elsewhere to, but I like to be close, especially since one of us (me) was not skiing.

Dayle hit it on the head, you have to make some type of decision between skiing and nightlife, unfortunately. LCC=not much to do, but skiing is fantastic.
When I last spent a week there, I spent 2 days in PC and 5 @ Alta/Bird. This year I'm spending a week in PC because I'm going with a group that is less concerned with terrain. I'm going to try and do the interconnect tour this time to catch a piece Alta/Snowbird.

dmlove -- LCC is Little Cottonwood Canyon, where you'll find Snowbird and Alta. Big Cottonwood Canyon, to the north, is home to Brighton and Solitude. Park City is up Parleys Canyon, another one of the seven canyons that feed into the Salt Lake Valley.

Park City is a very happening place and has changed a lot from 30 years ago. There is so much to do at night; fantastic culinary restaurants, boutiques, bars, etc. I would personally stay in Park city and drive to Snowbird or Alta for 2 days of skiing. Deer Valley has fantastic skiing as well. I don't think there is one best ski area....the area is a wealth of fantastic ski areas. My personal faves are Deer Valley and Snowbasin which is an hour away in Ogden. They are both very posh and I like that luxury touch. All have great terrain as well.
