We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Rainbow tower (ocean front room) and hated it! We were paying a high rate for an Alii Tower room but since there was noisy construction going on, and the pool and restaurant there were closed, we changed to that room. We experienced rude service at the front desk, slow service when our toilet immediately overflowed, crowded pool with no seats at all, beach chairs you must pay for (!), mediocre food, keys to the parking garage that didn't work (and a surprise fee for self parking!), and 10 min. waits for the elevators. Oh yes-and after two days,we discovered that our room phone had not been activated, which explained why we always got busy signals when we called out. We complained but no one cared-we were glad we were only there 4 nights, but never again. Only stay there if you get a great deal.

We just returned from Kauai and stayed at the Marriott time share, but actually spent some time at the Hyatt. They are totally different places, and only 2 minutes apart by car. The Marriott of course has 2 BR's and having a kitchen is great. It is a quiet location-not alot of children. The beach area is really nice with a lagoon that is great for young children. The week we were there, 2 monk seals were sunning on the beach. The pools are somewhat small-which was fine for us. There is a market on the premises with food etc and a restaurant with Hawaiian entertainment that is open I believe Wed- SUn for dinner (this time of year). I would stay there again. We did spend one nite at the Marriott hotel by the airport, and other than the fact that it has the most fantastic pool ever, I wouldnt stay there again. I dont know as much about the Hyatt, only that it is beautiful. They had some planned activities for families and several nice restaurants. The bar, which was really nice, was open I think till midnite most of the week and on Thurs has entertainment. The grounds are lovely, as is the golf course. In the golf club is a wonderful restaurant called Yum Cha I believe. Food was outstanding,as was the service and prices reasonable, at least for Kauai (where everything is expensive). Both are located near the Poipu shopping center/small mall. There were 2 great places in there to eat- Keoki's- great food and entertainment some nites. We ate in the less formal dining area and loved it. ALso in that same mall is Puka DOgs- you got to have one. We ate the vegetarian dog and it really did NOT at all taste vegetarian. That whole area is peaceful and beautiful. Not far is the Beach House- you need a reservation to eat there, but at least go for drinks or just to sit on the lawn and watch the sunset. It is a nitely event at sunset. We loved our trip. We also did the NaPali coast boast tour on Holo Holo- very well done- we did the afteroon cruise. Probably the most striking view of all was Waimea canyon-incredible. Last but not least, if you are golfers, go to the public golf course- it's CHEAP and beautiful- Kukuiolono golf course in Kalaheo. Anyway, this is probably much more than you asked for!! FYI- assuming you are renting a car, fill it up at Costco on your way back to the airport. Have a great trip!!!!!
