Hi all!

We will be driving from SF to wine country for 1 night- may 8th. This is mother's day weekend and I am having trouble finding a place to stay for just 1 night. Most have 2 night minimums on weekends. Does anybody out there have a suggestion?

We prefer the St. Helena area, but am looking at Sonoma and Glen Ellen, too. I'm looking at under $225 for the night.

All suggestions and ideas will be gratefully accepted!

Sonoma has a nice place in the Lodge at Sonoma. It's a Marriott property. We stayed there and it's nicely located and pretty new. We paid something like $189 maybe.

We love the Sonoma Mission Inn, but it is over $225/night on weekends. You may want to check out the El Dorado Hotel located right on the Plaza. I have not stayed there, but have heard great things from a reputable source who is very picky. There is a website where you can check the property out.

There is also the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn which is a very affordable, clean, comfortable property walking distance to the plaza. Enjoy Sonoma! ***kim***

We just got back from Napa Valley and stayed in Yountville at the Maison Fluiere (sp?). It was a little small, but a nice B&B adn within walking distance of all the major restaurants.
It was in the $150/night range.

Kim- El Dorado has a 2 night minimum on weekends.

Q2- We are checking into the Maison Fleurie. Their website doesn't mention anything about a minimum stay. Were you there on a weekend?

We stayed in Yountville and Healdsburg on our last trip to the area and now we were hoping to experience the St. Helena area. I know it's all fairly close together, but we only have one night so want to make the most of it.

The rooms go for around $209/night on weekends I believe. It is in a nice location.

Another idea is Calistoga where there are many moderately priced properites. The Comfort Suites and The BW Stevenson Manor are nice for one night stays and easy on the pocketbook. Have fun! ***kim***

The El Pueblo Inn in Sonoma has a one-night minimum (we stayed one night over Labor Day weekend!). It's about a mile or less from Sonoma Square, but you'll have a car if you don't want to walk. The rooms are not fancy but are well-appointed and clean. Great pool area, wonderful staff, and the free breakfast bar is a treat. Lots of good food! I was expecting a tray of donuts and some coffee -- they had oatmeal, pastries, cereal, fruit, juices, yogurt, and more.

Have you tried the Napa Valley Lodge in St. Helena? It's quite pleasant; some of the rooms have fireplaces.

I found a napa valley lodge in yountville. Same place? The online reservation form tells me no availabilty, but I suspect it's because they won't allow only 1 night on weekends. Thanks for trying!

Go to biddingfortravel.com and see what the latest bids have been. Follow the rules - and good luck!

You might also try calling them -- especially if it is a smaller place. Sometimes they will book you for only one night. However, remember that many of these places are only busy during "nice weather seasons" and since there are so many times of the year when they aren't booked, they need to maximize their bookings when it is nice. But if you only plan to be there, say Friday or Sunday night, they might negotiate and let you have one night. If it's Saturday...that's the easy night for them to sell out. oops. just looked. May 8 is a Saturday. Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask. You could get lucky and someone will say yes!

We have stayed at the Yountville Inn for one night. It's a wonderful property. I believe it was a Thurs. night.

I know we stayed at the Indian Springs Resort in Calistoga on a Fri. night the first week of May. www.indianspringscalistoga.com is the web address, but the rooms are about forty dollars more than your price range. ***kim***
