Need help finding B&B/hotel in Key West!

Hi. My husband and I are traveling to Key West for my friend's wedding in early Nov. We're on a somewhat limited budget and are looking for a cute B&B or hotel for under $120/night near Mallory Square. I've never been to Key West, but the wedding will be on Sunset Key, so we supposedly should stay near Mallory Square so we can get around easily. Also, is it hard to get cabs around the area? Thanks!

If you stay near Mallory Square (or virtually anyplace in Old Town) you won't need a cab. Key West is very small and everything is within walking distance. You probably won't be able to find a hotel under $120 near the Gulf but there should be B&Bs in that price range. Sorry to say I've only stayed in hotels so I can't give you specific help. I'm sure others will be able to help, or you might do a back search of this board...I remember seeing lots of posts about B&Bs.

Even if you stay at the far end oif the island on the ocean side (near the Marriott Reach resort or what used to be called the Reach) you can walk to mallory Square in twenty minutes quite easily. Getting a bit closer is more convenient and yes.... cabs are readily available at most times anywhere on Duval Street. I'd try to stay a bit closer to the center of town. I have stayed several times at Jasmine House and liked it because it was small, (two rooms and two suites). Their downstairs rooms are likely under $100 per night. I also stayed at Eden House on another visit - it was nice enough but many more rooms, more traffic in and out and a bit too far from Duval Street for my taste. Jasmine House is about a fifteen minute walk from the square at a leisurely pace.

November is tourist season in Key West, so your chances of finding a good B&B in your price range and location might be more difficult. I've never stayed there, but check out Key West B&B, their website says their rates start at $99 in season. Their URL is:
http://www.keywestbandb.com/kwbnb1.html

You can also check out Coco Plum B&B on Whitehead Street. Their website doesn't post their rates, so you can call and maybe bargain them down a little bit on their prices if they are a little out of your range.

We stayed at the Eaton Lodge and even though it's a great location, we didn't care for it very much. We could do a little better for the price we paid ($120 in the summer).

The seaport area is pretty nice, you might find something over there. Also, I highly recommend getting a multi-day pass for one of the shuttles (the Bone Island Shuttle is air conditioned.) Even though it's November, it's still hot in So. Fla.

We're going to be in Key West the second week in November. This trip we're trying Merlin Guest HOuse (or is it just Merlin House?). Anyway, we have a cottage for $140.00. I know some rooms are cheaper.

The rooms in the Carriage House at Island City House won't be much more than $120.00. Ditto the poolside rooms at Ambrosia House. Most of the B&B's in Key West don't switch to 'season' rates until mid-December.

The Key West Paradise web site has a long list of B&B's with direct links to all their respective web sites. Literally dozens to choose from.

I would make sure and stay in Old Town. We've never taken a cab (other than to/from the airport). It's a great walking town.
