Need budget hotel in San Francisco - near attractions
Hi All,
We’re looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel within the city limits of San Francisco ($100 or less/night) in May 2005. Since we are two women traveling together, safety is a major concern. Keeping that in mind, we would like to stay close to some of the major attractions, but we’re flexible as long as we’re staying somewhere that is convenient to public transportation since we will not be renting a car.
We have been trying to get a room on Priceline for a couple of months to no avail. I had been bidding for the USE & USW areas, but I’ve since heard some not so great comments about the area…so I’m striking out on my own. But given my budget, I know that my choices are limited.
Many thanks for your assistance in advance,
Renee

Renee,
There are always hotels availbale for your budget on Lombard street which is not too far from Fishermans Warf/Girdelli Square. I have stayed in that area a few times and don't have much to positive to say on the rooms but area is decent.
Who goes to SF for thier room anyway?

I think most of the people who live in SF or close by, would say that the Lombard St area (Cow Hollow and Marina districts) is a lot more decent than the Wharf. It's probably the safest area in the City also.

Renee, have you booked your flights yet (assuming you are flying to SF)? If not, consider combining hotel and air with Expedia or Orbitz. I did this with my daughter, and the savings was substantial. We booked on Expedia and got the four-star Pan Pacific for $110 per night, including taxes and fees. We could have saved even more by lowering our hotel star level to three stars...Also, the prices changed daily, so check and check again.

Thanks for the tip, zootsi...very nice hotel!
Thanks for the 411, Stu!
Joan,
I got a to die for price of 98.00 r/t from Atlanta. I only heard about it through our local consumer guru, Clark Howard on the radio and I jumped on it. With junk fees the price was 129.00! Guess I'm pressing my luck since I got the air for almost nothing, huh? roflol!!
