Yes, stayed there in May of '99, our friends stayed there in another unit same time. It is convenient, close to beach, next to the Beach House restaurant, has w/d in separate area. Each unit is different because they are indidually owned. Prince Kuhio is right across the street, as I recall. Kuhio Shores is on the water side--all units have some view--some better than others.

Prince Kuhio is a down scale property across the street from the beach side of the road in the Poipu area. It has no grounds so to speak of, and the pool is way out back and not that great. The Kuhio Shores is directly across the street from the Prince Kuhio and it too has no grounds so to speak, but is ocean front and has good ocean views. The complex was pretty devastated in the last Iniki hurricane so the units have all been renovated since so should be ok, but I have never been in them. The complex is your typical condo complex and not even a really pretty looking one. (My opinion.) It is right next to the Beach House restaurant. Don't think they have a pool either. I would say that both are downscale but probabaly clean affordable accommodations if you are on a budget.

I think you can do better with accommodations on Kauai's South shore. In my opinion, both Prince Kuhio and Kuhio Shores look a bit shabby in comparison to other properties in this locale and lack normal amenities that most condo complexes possess, i.e, pool, tennis courts, exercise facility, concierge desk. Additionally, depending on the location, you could end up having as your view the back side of the Beach House Restaurant. I would suggest you check out Lawai Beach Resort. Although these are interval ownership units, there are a few rentable and managed by Suite Paradise at 800-367-8020. Also, I would suggest Kiahuna Plantation. The grounds are quite nice and the complex fronts the ocean although most of the units are either ocean view or garden view. These, too, are individually owned, so be specific in mentioning your personal needs, i.e., updated furnishings and amenities, when speaking with the management company. Also, there is a smaller unit of condos with incredible ocean and sunset views called Whaler's Cove, on the South shore, although these are somewhat pricier than Kiahuna or Lawai. There are also some smaller units whose names I cannot remember that front the ocean at Poipu which are maintained quite nicely. If the names come to me, I'll let you know. In the interim, feel free to e'mail me directly with any questions you might have.
