Need advice on my Manhattan hotel options
We are planning a trip to New York in August, for 6 days. Mom, Dad, and kids - 11, 13 & 18
We've narrowed it down to two possibilities, and I'd greatly appreciate comments from anyone who knows these hotels, and/or can tell me about the neighbourhood they are in. Our Canadian dollar is only worth about 55 cents U.S., so we've tried to keep that in mind.
Courtyard by Marriott - 3rd & 53rd $179/nt
Kimberly Suites - 50th, at 3rd & Lex. $209/nt
Also - any recommended restaurants nearby for breakfast and late dinner?
Thanks for any info.

The Courtyard is brand spanking new and would be my choice. Also the Marriott name assures a good consistant product. I believe all rooms are on high floors since the lower floors are dedicated to a new hospital that opened in the building (different street entrance from hotel). The entire structure was gutted and recently re-opened. Both hotels are similarly located, and in a very nice and extremely safe neighborhood, just 2 block from Park Avenue, so location is not an issue. Save the money and try the Marriott, seems like an excellant deal.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the hotels, but your Canadian Dollar is worth much more than 55 cents (or was that just an exageration from a frustrated Canadian?).
You should be able to get at least 67 cents for it today, especially if you use your credit cards / ATM.

Hi, there...we are in the same boat...Canadian and going to New York with a 14 and a 16 year old. We were supposed to be more restricted as my brother in law wanted us close to his apart. on the upper west side. We have temporarily booked the Mayflower right across the street from Central Park, a 1 bedroom suite for 195.00...it is supposed to be an older property but reliable I am told...may help you although I may check a map and look at the Courtyard mayself. You'll have no problem finding places to eat at any hour in that area. The area from First Avenue to Lexington Avenue in the East 50s has a wide variety of choices.
To Annemarie: It could easily be a mile from your area (i.e., the area of Mayflower Hotel) and the East 50s area discussed. You really don't have that many choices on the West Side where you want to stay. The Mayflower is fine. And, you'll love the Lincoln Center area and just north of it.

Have been to NYC many, many, countless times. I can't help you with the hotels, but as for finding something to eat, refer to a Fodor's guide for dinner, but for lunch, all you have to do is look around for a decent-looking place, and it usually is.
