Need advice about Salem
My husband and I are moving to the Salem area for law school. I would appreciate any recommendations on the following. What are the nicest apartment complexes? What part of town is more upscale? Are there nicer places a bit out of the city?

I moved to Salem two years ago, and there are a plethora of apartment complexes here. I lived in one for 6 months and then had to get out of there!
My preference is southeast Salem. I curretly rent a small house near Bush's Pasture Park, which is a nice neighborhood with early 1900s cottages and bungalows.
There is quick access to Willamette U, downtown, and I-5 from where I live.

Hey Oceanblue33, we came in '93 for the same reason and still live here! Where are you coming from?
I am a bit out of the loop with apartments, however there are a lot more choices than there were back "in the day"....some newer, nicer things. What do you think your budget will be, will being super close to the university matter, are you both going or just your husband and you will find a job? I think answering those questions will help you figure out where you might want to be. Do you have a chance to come see the area before school starts in August? South Salem and West Salem are widely considered to be the "nicest" parts of Salem, however I don't know that there has been the same sort of apartment boom in WS as there has been out South.
If you have some specific questions for me I would be happy to try to answer.
