Need a moderate hotel around the Met in NYC.
Did not post New York in my last message. We need double for Thanksgiving. Since that is an expensive time anyway, just wanted to know if anyone is familiar with a hotel that is in the 150-250 price.

You could try the Hotel Wales at Madison and 92 (I think). The same company owns another hotel at 87th between Third and Lex -- can't think of the name of it. Both are nice, relatively inexpensive, but not full-service hotels (i.e., no restaurant/room service).

Which "Met" are you talking about? The museum (the Wales is 10 blocks from there) or Lincoln Center "Met" opera house on the west side? There are many more options near Lincoln Center (the opera house) including the Beacon, the Lucerne and the Mayflower.
If you mean the museum, you could try bidding on Priceline for the UES. The Stanhope (across from the Met museum) is the only 4star in the UES section I think and could probably be had for $200-maybe less. Check the hotel website as well.

mclaurie, I love the Surrey Hotel but would be shocked if it is under $400 that weekend. To be one of the Affina properties, it isn't really a deal like some of the other other hotels they have are.
The only reason I've ever stayed there is because one of the former Affina Director of Sales & Marketing was a friend of mine and we would trade out hotel rooms. I couldn't afford the hotel otherwise.

Well, I checked and the rate at the Surrey at that time for a studio is $334/night. Many of Affinia's other properties would fall under your $250 price though. I think the cheapest for the Thanksgiving weekend was the Beekman Towers at $234/night for a studio. Depending on how far east your relatives are, it might be worth staying there and being a bus or cab ride away (it's at 49th & 1st ave.)
If your family is closer to Fifth Ave., maybe try some place like the Roosevelt in midtown but just off Madison so you could take the bus uptown.
There are really so few affordable hotels on the UES. The other option is to try the upper west side and take a crosstown bus. The Excelsior, the Beacon and the Lucerne are all good hotels on the uws.
