National Park Pass

I have read about the America the beautiful Pass. Can I purchase it at the Grand Canyon? Will this cover Petrfified forest NP and Red Rock park in Sedona? How much does it cost and is it a good value?

nps.gov gives all the info you want - be sure to check local areas in your home state. I was surprised to find places I never thought of that would admit using nps pass.

As Gail advises, go to www.nps.gov for all the info.

Yes, we think that the pass is a fantastic bargain! We buy one every year, even if we don't know if we'll be visiting a national park, because at $80 it's an easy way to support the park system.

Yes, you can purchase your pass at the Grand Canyon. But we always buy it online at nps.gov.

Yes, it will cover the Petrified Forest -- as it will all National Parks and Federal Recreation Sites. Red Rock in Sedona is a State Park, so unfortunately it does not fall into that category.

Yes, you can purchase it at the Grand Canyon. The cost for an annual pass is usually $80 but U.S. citizens or permanent residents over 62 years old can buy a lifetime pass for $10. Permanently disabled citizens/permanent residents can get a free lifetime pass.

The pass covers federal lands only, so Red Rock State Park is not covered. Whether or not it's a good value depends on how much you plan on using it.

It does not cover RR state park as others have said, but it does cover parking on federal land around Sedona. Many of the red rock trails are in the National Forest land, including Boynton Canyon and several others. RR State park is only a small part of the area.

The fee at Grand Canyon is $25, and at Petrified Forest it's $15. Do the math for your own travel plans to see if it works for you.
