Marco Island is a nice place to visit and have lunch. Another post mentioned the Everglades. The experience of the Everglades will last a lifetime!! If you can arrange it, take a 'private' airboat ride. These can accommodate up to (I believe) 3 people and can squeeze into places the larger airboats just can't. Keep your camera handy because the wildlife is amazing. We were fortunate and saw quite a few 'gators (of all sizes) on our trip.
If you can spare the time and enjoy nature, I would also recommend the trip over to Miami, where you can catch a boat over to Biscayne National Park. If you have to chose between this and the Everglades, by all means, the Everglades.
Another nice trip if you have the time and haven't been there, is head down to the Keys. I beleve there used to be a boat trip from Naples to Key West, but not sure if it's still operational and/or seasonal.
Enjoy Southwest Florida. Don't miss the keylime pie either !!

First thing - take the trolley tour of Naples. It's about 2 hours and well worth the time to give you an overview of the town. Did you know that Thomas Edison's and Henry Ford's winter homes are next door to each other in Ft Myers, about 45 mins. north of Naples? You may be flying in to Ft Myers. The Edison Estate, which includes his home, la
it looks like he was there yesterday)and a museum is a great place. It's on about 10 acres on the Caloosahatchee River. If you're not familiar with Florida flora, the tour of the grounds will be very interesting. The admission is $10. and includes the Henry Ford home. To get a good look at the everglades you have several options. A couple I would recommend are 1)drive to Everglades City (about 45 mins east of Naples) to Everglades Nat'l Park and take a boat trip. Great fun and very informative. 2)drive approx. 1 1/2 hours east of Naples on Hway 41 (not I75)to Shark Valley and take the tram tour. You won't see any sharks but you will see lots of aligators. The narrated tour is very good. Definitely take a small airboat ride. It's a tourist thing, but you have to do it once in your life. Other ideas: walk, shop and eat in Old Naples (3rd Street South, also 5th Ave South). Walk to the end of the Pier at sunset. I've lived in Naples for 25 years so e-mail me direct if I can help further.

1. Ding Darling nature preserve on Sanibel Island at low tide: see thousands of bird feeding including the gorgeous roseate spoonbill.
2. ditto the grounds of the Ford & Edison Estates in Ft. Myers
3. lunch, dinner or maybe just martinis at Tommy Bahamas on Third Street south in downtown Naples..very tropical and the food is much better than it has to be for such a postcard type place.
4. have a guide take you fishing in the back areas of Marco, etc.
5. Corkscrew Swamp, national Audubon sanctuary is very unique and very oldest of Audubon sanctuaries. Some are disappointed but it is a very spiritual place for me and you just have to slow down and really look to see the wonder of this place.
6. Tigertail Beach on Marco Island

Sharon: How could I forget to mention Corkscrew Swamp? It's one of my favorite places - thank you for the reminder. I've seen, as I'm sure you have, people stomp along the boardwalk saying, very loudly, "There's nothing to see here!" If only they would slow down, look and listen, they would experience the beauty of one of Florida's most natural and little known wonders!
