Naples base for Fort Myers/Spring Training?

We are thinking of heading to Naples as a base for Spring Training in Fort Myers. We stayed in the greater Ft. Myers area last time we did this, and want a change. I hear Naples is a really good place to visit. Is this so? Is it close enough to Ft Myers? Is Naples close to areas in which we could go walking/hiking/exploring fauna and flora? Finally, we need suggestions for places to stay. We would want something that offers us at least a kitchenette for breakfasts and lunches, hoping to spend no more than $200/night. Is this a ridiculously low amount for Naples in March? Thanks

Almost an hour's drive ... how many games are you attending?

Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a really nice place to see critters and plants from several ecosystems up close, walking on an elevated boardwalk. This is pretty close to Naples, but isn't a great place to hike. Best very early in the AM ... http://fl.audubon.org/who_centers_Corkscrew.html

I would imagine that is a ridiculously low price. It is still "in season" until April 1. BUT anything is possible, I suppose.

Duh... I just noticed you are "soxgirl"...

The Sox train in N Ft Myers, even further from Naples... that would be over an hour in the car each way, every game... move to Bonita Beach (between Naples and Ft. Myers)... lodging is cheaper and you are closer to the Ball Park...

Aren't the Red Sox opening up their new stadium on Daniels parkway this spring? Depending on where in Naples you stay, you won't be an hour away. If you are in the North Naples area, you can get to the stadium in less than 45 minutes, possibly quicker.

Thank you all. Is Bonita Beach a nice place to stay? One thing I realize is that $200/night is low, as you point out. We'll have to reconsider our pricing, for sure. You point out north Naples is closer to the new Jet Blue stadium (yeah-Red Sox). Is that a good part of Naples in which to stay? And, if so, does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel-one with mini kitchenettes? When I look on line, I have no idea what to avoid, what is a good area, and so on. Thank you for the corkscrew swamp link-will definitely check that out.
