My fiance and I are looking to spend a couple days in Napa for our honeymoon. Looking for a great place to stay for around $250-300 per night. Would be going on Mon-Wed in August. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have also been reading really great things about Sonoma and wonder if it is better stay in that area? We are not wine or restaurant connoisseurs, only in our mid-20s. Thanks

That begs the question, why choose Napa (or Sonoma), where outside of wine tasting and fine dining, there's not much to do. Okay maybe spa and mud baths. Napa and Sonoma also attract a more affluent visitor, which is reflected in the price of accommodations, so I think your nightly budget might get you more bang for the buck elsewhere.

The greater Napa Valley area is pretty with good restaurants - and the town square in Sonoma has Victorian themed buildings. A friend of mine got married at a beautiful French styled Chateaux in North Napa and I will try to find the name, as I think they also rent out rooms.

i live in sonoma county-- but go to napa fairly often. for a honeymood, i think you need to narrow it down. calistoga's thermal water is magical (but we chase the thermal water on our vacations...) and for that i would choose indian springs in calistoga. they have little cottages... but it's all about the water and the world-class thermal pool. it is more funky than fancy-- though the prices are fancy. still-- it's a fun little town to hang out in-- you can walk everywhere. st helena is cute-- especially if you like shopping.

as i had just mentioned in another post-- napa has an easy and elegant wine road that is simple to navigate. sonoma county, on the other hand, has wineries sprinkled out toward the coast, redwoods, along the river, and in the big anderson valley. it is, for me, more interesting to explore.

if you go to sonoma county, you could stay at the coast, along the russian river, in the redwoods or in the valley. you sort of need to choose an area first... then maybe get more help.

it will probably be very hot in august-- and near the coast or the redwoods will be much cooler-- if that matters to you.

Still trying to track it down. Begins with an L as I recall - but don't think it's Ledesma. And close to Sonoma, just to give you an idea of a cute winery - here is a page for Gundlach Bundschu, which has a rich history also.

We also like the BV/BeauLieu winery (about mid-valley)- and up in Calistoga (where the mud baths are) - Cheateau Montelena is very pretty.

Napa/Sonoma is just a great place to hang out and relax/enjoy driving around/etc - or even renting bikes and seeing some of the places is a fun way to "tour".

If you are not into wine and food, there maybe better places to honeymoon than Napa and Sonoma especially in August when it's so expensive. What activities are you looking for during your stay?
