I guess it depends on what yopu call "a bit farther" One of the finest wineries and great restaurant--
Domain Chandon, is 8 miles north of Napa.. This actually at Yountville. Just above Yountville the roadside wineries start--Mondavi is one of these. I have been told that the B & Bs are not quite as expensive as "up-valley". IMO the prices some of them charge is outrageous!!!
In Napa on Tues and Sat. is a great Farmer;'s market--across from Copia.-adjacent to a "walk around garden" with places to enjoy local pastries and coffee.
You will enjoy the Valley !!!

Hi,
We were just in Napa this past weekend for the first time and loved it!
You may want to check out the Napa Valley website and check out the virtual map at http://www.napavalley.com/maps/index.html. From there you can click on an area and then lodging and it will give you all the lodging around that particular area, along with attractions, dining, etc.
Good luck!
Tracy
