Name the first trip you ever remember taking
To White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns. My parents folded down the rear seat of the station wagon, spread out a blanket, and that was the space for my younger sister and me. Seat belts . . . who'd ever heard of seat belts?

I remember a trip to Hershey and Lancaster, PA, touring the Lititz Pretzel factory, the Hershey plant, and the Amish Country. I still have the little plastic boy and girl dolls dressed in Amish clothing that I bought there. Circa 1961.
MRand - we did the same thing - back of the station wagon, all the way from NY to California and back in 1963. And I lived to tell about it!

My parents piling all 4 kids into the back of the car and hauling us to PA to see our relatives.
We heard the parental standards like "Don't MAKE me stop this car!" and "The next time we go somewhere, we're going to leave you kids at home!" I was really wishing they had meant that one, but they never did. Needless to say, the next time they went to see family in PA, there we were, all 4 of us smashed into the back seat of the car again!

Camping in Michigan. I got bit by a badger. Also, it was the first time I ever took a shower becauset the camp just had showers and no bathtubs. I screamed the whole time.
And Mackinac Island... I don't remember the island. I just remember the hotel.

San Diego to Disneyland! I was just under 3 years old, when Grandma came and treated us to the trip.
I remember the submarine ride very distinctly..thought it was so incredible. Didn't go on that ride again till I was about 13 and couldn't believe how lame the ride had become!!

We used to go to Cape Cod every August. I remember when we *finally* got to the approach to the Cape; we would get so excited when we could see the curve of the top of the Sagamore Bridge through the trees. It seemed to take so long from the Boston suburbs to Plymouth LOL.
My first major trip was to England and Paris when I was in the 7th grade. kealalani, I'd forgotten the hair cut trauma until I read your post! Mine was post-trip: my mom never wanted to deal with my long hair again after struggling to get me to use the shower down the hall in our Paris hotel. As soon as we got home, she made me chop it off: I got a Dorothy Hamill. Yuck!

When I was 5 to 6 years old. We had moved from New York to California just before I turned 5. We (4 of us) went in our white station wagon cross country back to New York for a visit. For some reason what sticks in my memory is Tucomcari New Mexico

It was a family trip to Lake George, NY in 1969 when I was 4. I remember some details like "fishing" while dragging a plastic bag on the top of the water. My eldest brother is 10 years older and it's the only family vacation that I can remember all of us going on.

The summer before kindergarten, my family took a vacation to Texas. I vaguely remember feeding the seagulls and shopping for seashell lamps. It was the only family vacation we took until the summer before my senior year of high school.
