Name of area/suburb at LAX???
Need name of area of LAX . When I type in "LA" it measures from town center!!! (Trying to figure miles using my "travel software" )
Also don't know area of John Wayne airport either
I wonder if I would be better off flying into San Diego and driving north to Laguna Hill?
Help appreciated....

If you're staying in Laguna Hills, John Wayne is the airport you want, it won't be more than 10-15 miles from there, a 20 minute drive, tops.
From LAX, on the other hand, 30-45, but the 405 freeway is a real bitch and you could be on the road for 2 hours, especially if you don't know the area and can't drive the streets instead. San Diego will be about 1.5 - 2 hours without traffic.

Susan is wrong.
The town around LAX (3 letter code for LA International Airport) is called
Westchester.
Manchester Boulevard is a major street that sort of runs into LAX.
John Wayne Airport is in Orange County -south of Los Angeles - (city of Santa Ana, I believe) and is much closer to Laguna Hills.

Here's the website for John Wayne Airport (I believe its 3 letter airport is SNA). Click on where it says address/directions (or something like that) that shows where it is in relation to Laguna Hills (inland) and also Laguna Beach -- at the beach, naturally.
It is closer to Laguna Hills for sure IF, I repeat IF, *your* choice of airline flies from *your* home airport to it. It is much smaller than LAX so you need to check that out.
Good Luck, Kay.

Go to the online mapping website:
www.mapquest.com
Click on Driving Directions - top of your screen.
Then, on the screen that pops up; use the following address for the John Wayne Airport as your starting point:
18601 Airport Way
Santa Ana, CA 92707
Type in *your* destination address, then click 'get directions' or some such nomenclature.
Will respond with a small map and step by step driving directions.

If you learn you must use LAX, then its official address is:
1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA
I just did a quick test using:
www.mapquest.com
Typed that in as my starting point address and a generic 'Laguna Hills' (no street address, no Zip) as my destination, clicked on 'Get Directions' and it responded with a 50 mile drive and an estimated 54 minutes. That doesn't take into account, commute traffic, etc.
One last GOOD LUCK, Kay!

Having visited the area several times, I much recommend flying into John Wayne (the airport, not the man) over LAX, especially if you''re ultimate destimation is sout of LA.
Of course, as one post mentioned, much depends on whether you can get a flight into John Wayne (the airport, not the ... never mind). But I've never had a problem reaching it from the East Coast.

Geez, I love the web as much as the next person, but you could have answered this question by just looking at a map. Maybe I'm different than most people, but I have a trusty Mobil Map at home and use it when I begin to plan my trips. Remember the computer is a great tool, but it isn't the only tool.

I second the recommendations to fly into SNA (the code for John Wayne Airport) if you can. You have probably seen that tickets are always a little expensive there, but the trade-off in time and stress is worth it unless you're on a really tight budget. I should know-- I live in OC and have fought with myself for years about this. Many times I have booked the cheaper flight out of LA, only to miss more work, pay more for transport to tha airport and stress myself out! Slow learner.
