Oops I just noticed the boardwalk part
Have you been lately?
It's all new with the craziness mainly on the Blvd side.
The ocean side is really nice.
On the other hand
You are close to the small town of Ocean Drive.
The Shag dance started there and I'm pretty sure they still have a dance in the OD pavilion on Saturday

WELL, they will try to preserve OD as a name because of MANY things, but it IS North Myrtle Beach and is not a little town, IMO. And oh, if it could be what it was, what fun. As someone who remembers the first high rise (5 stories) hotel built at OD because it was built about 5 doors down from a friend's beach house where we had yearly house parties, it remains a great memory. All "cheese box" houses with cute names and with boardwalks over the dune to the beach--each house.
DH's family was going to OD 80 years ago and had beach houses--until the hurricanes!!

Well I was just trying to help.
We both know there are no cute small beach towns north of Pawleys Island.
North Myrtle beach has annexed most of them
But Ocean Drive IMO has a better vibe
than other parts of NMB.
Kingston is very close to OD.

Also I give Ocean Drive a thumbs up
for rebuilding after the Hurricanes
I don't understand your hostility towards OD
Anyone who owns beach properties knows that to build cheese box houses
on the Ocean comes with great risk
And insurance will not cover It.
FEMA won't allow it
Glass enclosures around pools must
be taken down at the start of hurricane
season.
They can't be replaced until the end of
November
Everything Changes.

NO hostility to OD, but it really "isn't" OD. They are trying to preserve the name, and more power to them. The reference to cheese box houses (and they still DO exist at other beaches) was also nostalgia--no big beach house.
My post is only nostalgia and encouraging the OP not to expect small town beach--which is as I say, available many other places along the coast.
I am NO fan of MB although the place that Starrs has posted does look pretty nice for a high rise hotel experience.

Sure there are cheese box houses.
You can't rebuild these houses right on the Dunes.
My reply was for the OP who happens to be going to NMB.
She has booked her condo so I am letting her know what's close.

Massive construction on HWY 17 in the Pawlys Island area as recent as 20 days ago.
I don't know if it goes all the way to North Myrtle Beach but it's a nightmare
coming up from the Charleston area.
She also has younger girls with her.
So I posted logical things for her family to do.
I don't think she wants to spend most of her time in a car.

I meant Pawleys Island.
Did you see the OP replied that she had made her decision.
Starrs posted a restaurant.
Lots of people love the Myrtle Beach
Mostly young people.
But you can not deny the beauty of the
long strand of beach
Ocean Drive is off to itself, and it has activities for young people, without the crowds of Myrtle Beach

The OP has not posted since May 20th
So we may be wasting our breath.
I didn't see a date for her trip on her
post

In defense of Pawleys Island (That massive construction is actually building islands with pretty palms and tropical flowers in place of the normal middle lane)
Pretty but a pain whilst ongoing..
I was there June 26
Take mom back July 25 so I hope its complete

I take it you mean on the highway--and it is probably for traffic control, which IS needed. Hadn't seen it in May and will be back in a couple of weeks.

Yes you will see it.
Yes it slows traffic but it will be pretty.
You will understand when you see It
Most locals hate all the new islands, because you can't turn where you need to.
