MY WIFE WONT GET ON--FF MILES

I have tickets for Feb./United Airlines for United. My wife hates to fly and I talked her into this trip. If I don't fly on this flight which is a FF ticket, do I lose it. Can I transfer/change/alter or is it fixed.

Thanks

Well only United can answer that for sure, but usually the answer would be, yes, you will lose the ticket if you dont use it. But do call United and see if they're being sympathetic at all in these extraordinary times. If they won't refund, just sit tight and maybe by Feb everything wil be calmed down again and your wife will be willing to fly.

It's my understanding that FF ticket flight dates can be changed without penalty. Has been so for years.

Yes, xxx (WHY don't people use an email name?!) is correct. FF tickets are fully transferrable (you may have to pay $75 to redeposit your miles into the account - I'm not sure about that but it seems a small price), full reusable AS long as there are seats available on the dates you want to travel. Since you're not travelling until FEBRUARY(?) I'd really suggest that you try and wait a few weeks until you call United. As I'm sure you're aware, they're pretty busy and consumed right now with people who haven't been able to get home now.

Call United. If you had FF tickets with Continental you could simply redeposit them to your account. There is $35.00 fee for such service

Thank you for your responses. The reason that I was concerned about it now is not only with the concern over the WTC attack but noticing that some of the hotels that I booked have already charged my credit card (Manele has already charged over 600 dollars for the two days). It was, therefore, on my mind in case this is a prolonged war.

As to my real e-mail address, there is an interesting thread to which I already responded yesterday as to using ones own e-mail which I oppose unless Fodors sets up a system for guarding ones own name to set up an account. For example, I don't want my friends on this site to say the following...

I am a 70 year old divorcee living on the upper east side. I have done pretty well in my life and have been able to live directly across from the Met in NYC, a place I love. Give me thoughts...
Email--> [email protected]

If you have jerks hounding victims for social security numbers, why would I want people to know my name and address. In fact, I liked the European thread that asked people their ages and situations. Not with my real full name though.

P.S. But---If it helps, when you see [email protected], I live in NYC and my name is Jeff. I am a 30 something year old attorney. My email has my first and last name. I worked very hard to get the FF miles and the specific dates that I got for the trip before my wife and I start a family. We are just deciding now whether it is the time to go (not a safety issue) but it will be a $5000 trip anyway and the coming months will be interesting. I think about it now because getting this trip "off the ground" was such a recent obsession that even the thought of cancelling for a better time put my planning to a screeching halt.

Thanks again for your help. Petition Fodors for accounts if you want people identified if needed.

JJ, I think you misunderstood. Idsant was referring to xxx. When people simply logon as xxx or xx or whatever sometimes it is hard to keep who's who straight. It also seems strange to type Dear xxx. I think Idsant and others want people to use something a little more unique. Maybe I was the one who is misunderstood, but I don't think so.

Whether or not I misunderstood (I certainly may have), it is an issue in a current thread entitled
Why do you use a fake e-mail address?

Actually, I hope that is not what he/she meant. There is an increased nastiness on this board and for someone to care that I make up a name but not a full name or a nasty name like [email protected] is nasty in itself. I doubt that I was wrong because I still believe that most people on this site don't go on line to initally correct people or want to affirmatively be nasty or petty. Using a real email name is a valid concern, though.

P.S. I spelled initally wrong in case anyone wants to correct me.

LeighAnn:

Thank you! That's exactly what I was referring to (xxx). JJ - sorry if you took offense; none was intended.

As far as your FF miles, I looked at the MP program guidelines today for you and could not see a $$ amount associated with redepositing miles. But, this may be out of date.

I am flying to Boston on Friday on a AA frequent flyer ticket. I called AA and asked if I cancelled, would I lose my miles. They said yes!

To Pat: AA will let you redeposit your miles for a fifty dollar fee. I have done it myself. I think the agent you spoke to gave you wrong information.
