One other thing- why would working with the federal govt. "insure that he will hate his life?" That is a pretty gross generalization. I know people who actually enjoy their federal jobs and many who enjoy consulting w/the feds. I don't think it is fare to generalize that when they are moving due to his offer to work with the fed. It depends on the job offer and his situation; it might be a very good deal for him that he will like.

For the record - I enjoyed my stay in DC and though working hours and commutes are very long I enjoyed the experience very much. I'm sure Nancy will too.
I'm really not interested in getting in a fight with you emd. I'm happy for you that you are happy.

NancyCo, emd has given you some excellent and specific advice regarding neighborhood, schools and trafffic. I hope you listen to her.
Not all Alex schools are bad and not all Fairfax Cty schools are excellent. You need to take a close look at each of the schools in whatever district or neighborhood you're thinking of buying into. Private is always an option but location and competition for slots is a serious factor to consider.
WIthout unlimited $$$, balancing the commute/home/schools equation in the DC area is a really tough one. Good luck.
>>So on, be honest.....how long is that commute during rush hour. Let me guess....30 minutes, right?<<
tabd, You seem fixated on this "joke." No one on this post has made that claim. To the contrary.
>>I'm really not interested in getting in a fight with you emd<<
Then quit questioning her credibility with sweeping and unsubstantiated generalizations.
