Moving to Tucson

Hello to everyone. I'm relocating to Tucson, Arizona later this month. I'm looking for general information, ie; best area's to live in and public transportation, or is it essential to have a car ? What the night life is like, etc. Whatever kind of information is greatly appreciated.

It is almost certainly essential to have a car.

Having lived and worked here for almost 40 years, I can say it is not absolutely necessary to have a car. Public transportation is generally good and reliable. But I would have to qualify that by saying it really depends on where you live and where you work. For instance, for 12 years, I lived about 15 miles from where I worked and I took the bus almost every day. But the nearest bus stop to my home was over a mile away, so I did use a car to drive to the park & ride lot.

Night life depends on what you like. There are lots of clubs with live entertainment, from country/western to whatever. Best areas to live also depend on your individual situation. Are you married with 4 or 5 young children? Are you single?

Do you have any idea where you will be working? That will make a big difference on where you choose to live. For instance, my daughter works for City government and she moved into a place just on the south end of downtown. She just walks to work unless it is raining. There are a few clubs downtown and some more on north 4th Avenue, which is between downtown and the university. The University of Arizona is only a couple of miles from downtown, also.

Thanks once again for the info. I will be working at a local tv station, located on E. Rosewood St.
If you might have anything else to add, I would surely appreciate it. Thank you.

Ok, that would be KGUN, near East Speedway and North Kolb Road. It is behind a Wal-Mart. There are a lot of apartments on East Speedway within a mile of the station. If you do any searching, look for something in the range of 6500 East Speedway to 8,000 East Speedway. Or around 1000 Norht Kolb +/- 500 or so. That should keep you well within walking distance.

East Speedway is also right on one of the major bus routes, so you can get most anywhere fairly easily. Feel free to send me an email if you need more info.
