Moving to New Jersey

Hi all,

I will be relocating to New Jersey at the end of May and would appreciate some advice about places to live. My husband's job will be in Princeton but seems like that is a very unaffordable area. We would like a nice place not too far from there with a good school district. We have been told to avoid Trenton but that's pretty much the only thing we know. Our kids are 4 and 6. The six years old would go to the public elementary school and we would have to find a preschool for the 4 years old, maybe one of the church programs. Does anyone can recommend something? thanks in advance.

Thanks,

I was looking for my original message and since I couldn't find it thought I had posted it wrong or something.

Mercerville NJ is a very nice suburb of Trenton, and I have relations, that live there and also send there children to the public schools. IT is in Mercer County

Our family has lived in the Hopewell area since 1997 and we love it! Hopewell Township, Hopewell Boro, and Pennington are great places to live and raise a family. Let me know if you have questions! Good luck!

All the towns mentioned by the previous posters are nice. You may want to check out Montgomery too. Right next to Princeton with one of the top school districts in the state.

West Windsor is very nice, bbut it can be rather expensive. Also, look at East Windsor. Other suggestions:
Manalapan (about 20 minutes from Princeton)

Millstone, Upper Freehold, Cream Ridge

Just a few suggestions!

Since we are moving FROM Manalapan I would add that while the school system is fine, housing and real estate taxes are quite pricey!!

Definitely check out the Somerville/Hillsborough area. Very nice area, and not too far from Princeton.

I don't know how far your husband wants to drive but the Medford/Marlton area in South Jersey has good schools. Also Mt Laurel which has exits right off RT 295.

having lived around trenton, (because i work in the city) Hopewell was my favorite place to live, i just couldn't afford a house when i decided to buy.

Hopewell will be 20 to 30 minutes to princeton (you'll learn the back roads)

medford will be at least 45 minutes plus. lawrenceville will be same as hopewell because of traffic you could look into plainsboro but not too much except housing there. same on time.

cream ridge and upper freehold, very nice, mostly rural like hopewell. and if you are thinking hopewell, you should also look at west amwell twp.

don't have info on schools, but my friends won't leave the hopewell system. homes there will run close to 500K.

other friends live in west windsor, like it, again that 30 to 45 minute commute (and i may be too optomistic)

also allentown, nj, cute community. Roosevelt, nj, small town, own schools, taxes might be high because the community is so small yet still supports a school.
