moving to Austin help...
I need to find a good neighborhood to move to that I can find a house for about $1000 a month. A 3 bedroom or bigger with a yard. Schools are not important. I will be working at the airport. I am used to driving to work though. Any info would be helpful, even the towns outside of austin.
THANKS!!

Good neighborhood, 3 bedroom, $1000 a month: does not compute in Austin. A 3br with a yard in a good neighborhood is closer to $1800, and that is in the suburbs.
You might find something East of the Airport for $1000 a month - closer to Bastrop. I would put you closer to work at the airport but farther away from Austin. Depending on your shift at work, it wouldn't be a bad drive at all.
Other options might be Round ROck or Georgetown, but I still don't know if $1K is possible. I think you might find it for $1500. RR and GT would be a gawd awful commute to work.

My sister-in-law's family recently moved back to Austin. Declined the opportunity to purchase the family house because they could find something with a better location and lower price. They did not.
Austin is correct. You will not find anything habitable within your parameters in Austin. Maybe the far extremes, like Manor, Georgetown or Bude. If you have a family, Bastrop would be a reasonable alternative. I know many people who make the commute to town. The length of the drive to Bergstrom is about the same from Bastrop as it is from North or South Austin.

From Pflugerville to the airport is about 20-25miles. This could take you anywhere from 30-45 to even 60min, depending on the time of day.
They are building a new toll road on the east side of town that could cut the time, but I don't know the completion date. There are many road projects in Austin that seem to be perpetual.
The airport is SE Austin, so S. suburbs like Buda (Booda), Kyle, or even S. Austin are better for commute.
For a single family home as you describe $1000/mo (mortgage, tax, etc) doesn't go too far in Austin.
The Austin area MLS is avail online for browsing

Seahorse is looking to rent, not buy.
Seahorse, I live in Central Austin and it takes me 20 minutes to get to the airport. You can't go by the time estimates a mapping program gives you because they don't take into account construction and traffic, both of which you'll encounter plenty of.
I definitely agree that I would be looking on the south side of town and not in places so far north like Plugerville. Have you come for a visit? I think only you can judge what is a "good" neighborhood to you. There are tons of real estate agents here who would be happy to help, even with rental property.
Sorry I can't help with neighborhoods on the south side of town. I will tell you that it's definitely not my favorite part of town but I'm sure there are some nice areas.

Pflugerville is near Round Rock in faaaar North Austin. I don't think you could get from PF to the Airport in 15 minutes at 1 AM on a Tuesday AM. More like 30 minutes. Then if it's during rush hour, closer to 60.
Do you know your shift at the airport?
Buda (Buedah) is another possibility. It is South/Southeast. You actually might find a 3BR for $1K a
month.
Come visit Austin if you can!
