Movie Theaters in Manhattan

My girl friends and I will be in NYC the weekend Sex & the City 2 opens. We want to see the movie in a nice theater and go out for drinks before or after. In LA we have 21+ over theaters where they have a full service bar and you can take drinks in the movie theater with you. Does NYC have any of those? or do you recommend a good theater? Or know of any theater hosting a Sex & the City 2 event Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks!

There are no 21 plus theaters that I know of. The first run theaters in Manhattan and those that show indie films are all pretty good even the older ones that have been converted.

Sex and the City will be playing all over Manhattan. But for drinks, you are probably better off going to the AMC Loewes Kips Bay on 2nd Avenue and 32nd Street. There are a lot of popular bars on 3rd Avenue (not to mention one directly across the street from the theater). You could also go to one of the Times Square theaters since there are lots of bars there, and I'd certainly consider the Ziegfeld if the movie is playing there.

If you want to go to a nighttime show, buy your tickets in advance (as far in advance as you can) and arrive no later than 30 to 40 minutes before the show; be prepared to stand in line until you are admitted. In NYC, it's very common for big movies like this to sell out a full day's showings in advance. And the Kips Bay, which is the theater closest to my own home, is one of the busiest and most popular.

If you want to go out afterwards to a trendy SATC type bar, I'd head to the Clearview Chelsea on west 23 st. and then go out in the meatpacking district or Chelsea. The bars along 3rd ave. are more frat boy type bars. http://www.movietickets.com/house_de...=5%2F28%2F2010

If it is playing at Ziegfelds then consider seeing the movie there.

Ziegfeld's is usually where most of the movie premieres happen in NYC. Chances are SATC will be premiering there as well. So you can see the movie where all of the stars watched the premiere.

There are also scores of bars in the East Village and Lower East Side that cater to the under 25 and 30 crowd.
