Most romantic getaway you have been to in the US?

Our 25th anniversary is coming up in a couple of years. DH and I keep going back and forth with where to spend and celebrate our 25 years of wedded bliss. So, I told him I would take it to the experts. We could go for maybe five to eight days. Our anniversary is in April, a great month to travel. We live in So Cal.

So, keeping it in the US just because that is easier for us, where is the most romantic place YOU have been to, stayed, eaten at, lodged, B and B'd, spa'd or whatever for your romantic getaway?

Hand's down, the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. A very special spot.

Do you require it to be mainland US? I'm sure many would recommend Hawaii. Coastal Maine can be quite romantic, but I wouldn't recommend it for April. I guess the most romantic get-away I've been to in the US is New Orleans. For our 20th anniversary we had a suite at the Windsor Court which was really lovely. Lots of wonderful restaurants and music venues, too. Our favorite was dining in the courtyard at Marisol with drinks and jazz afterwards at the Spotted Cat.

Most romantic is still our honeymoon spot, San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara. We're from SoCal as well, and I know it seems like it would be nice to jet off to somewhere exotic, but avoiding the whole airport thing and not losing time to the flight was great.

Off the top of my head, two places scream romantic to me.

A luxury no holds barred trip to NYC with a fat hotel room overlooking Central Park and the best restaurants the city has to offer (Babbo, Daniel, Gramercy Tavern, March).

A luxury hut at Little Palm Island.

On our private balcony of every cruise ship I've been on. Can't think of anything we've ever enjoyed more.

Villa Toscana in Paso Robles, eight rooms remincent of Italy in a vineyard, fireplace, balcony, tub for two, fantastic brekfast & afternoon treats & wine galore. April is perfect, that is when we went. It is good for 2 or 3 nights. Wine testing one day in a limo and dinner at several great places in Paso Robles; Villa Creek or Bistro laurent. Enjoy!

Paso Robles is in Central CA north of Pismo Beach. If we're talking about the same Paso Robles.

OMG! has California seceded? I know we don't get all the big news like you do on the mainland, but I though we would have heard this one. I knew it, I just knew something like this would happen when the Govenator took office. So, does this mean I need my passport and a visa when I travel to CA?

LOL Paso Robles outside the US? Gosh how did I pass it so many times on my way from So Cal to SF? Though I was not aware of Paso Robles as a romantic destination. Thanks for the tip!

I agree with iamq...the Post Ranch Inn was just rated #1 hotel/inn/resort in the Westen Hemisphere in 2004. I proposed to my wife there in 2002. It is utterly unreal...the setting, the food at Sierra Mar. Nothing has ever compared (except for perhaps Tahiti), and I have traveled extensively.

Oh my gosh! Little Palm!
I think that would make a great romantic destination. I'd probably opt for 2 or 3 nights in Miami, and then head down to LP for an additional 4-5 of R&R!

Great responses, but for your 25th, I would strongly recommend Riquewihr, Alsace, France.
Had we done that trip, I might not have been divorced after 28 years and might now still be married for 37.
I must admit it's still great a great place to fall in love.

1. Little Palm Island
2. Auberge in Napa
3. La Playa in Naples

That order although April in Napa isn't so great on second thought but if your interests lie in that direction, it is wonderful to have a little Casita.
