Not sure about "smaller," but the Carneros chateau is great as is the unique Artesa. They are very close together as well.

Ferrari Carano is beautiful. Their wine is great too.

Although I wouldn't classify it as small, Gloria Ferrar has an outside veranda with table service and million dollar valley views. It was a great relaxing ending to a day of winery hopping.

Sorry, Korbel is large, but still lovely. Try Dry Creek Vineyard in Healdsburg.

Korbel may not qualify as small, but it is very beautiful.

My favorite day of wineries in that area is to start with Alexander Valley Winery, then Chateau Souveraign for lunch, on to Ferrari Carano, then stop off at Hop Kiln on Westside Rd., Davis Bynum, then finish the day at Korbel. Head out toward the coast and stop for a sunset dinner in Bodega Bay. Then back to SF.

Lake Sonoma winery has a lovely view. Don't miss a quick peek from the observation deck at Lake Sonoma- just a short drive.
