They are both nice hotels -- and both are located close to Highway One, somewhat removed from downtown Monterey and the wharf.

If rates are somewhat equal, I'd recommend the Hyatt (which just did a great remodel).

I am debating the Hyatt or the Wyndham Carmel Valley Ranch.

Any comment?

Carmel Valley Ranch is more of destination resort -- once there, you might not want to make the 1/2 hour (or so) drive to Monterey.

Hyatt is less than 10 minutes to downtown Monterey and the wharf area...

But the CVR is _gorgeous_!

The Carmel Valley Ranch is fabulous and
so relaxing ... but is a short drive to
Monterey and Carmel. If you don't mind
the 15 min or so drive you will love it.
The Monterey Hyatt on the other hand is
a dump. I will never stay there again.
Dark, dirty room. It felt more like a
bad Holiday Inn than a Hyatt. I don't
recommend the Hyatt at all.
