Montauk, Long Island

Hi- Can anyone recommend a hotel on Montauk to stay for a weekend in late april? I have found Gurney's, Montauk Manor, Ocean Beach Resort, but can't find any reviews on these. I'm looking to stay in something mid-range- not dirt cheap, but not superdeluxe, between $200 & $250 a night.

I would think in April most places would be in your price range (assuming they're open). DON'T stay at Montauk Manor-not well located & not IMO nice. Gurney's is nice & has a big famous spa where celebs go. I think Ocean Beach resort is nice.

Look into the Panoramic View www.panoramicview.com

Been a while since I've stayed in a hotel in Montauk but we still sail into the harbor most every summer.

From what I do recall of stays at Gurney's: very nice but expensive -
b'fast, dinner allowance and use of spa are included in the rate (spa treatments add'l). We stayed in (newer) oceanview rooms, great views and privacy and included kitchenette. My then GF loved the spa. Beware that they added 15% (maybe higher today) gratuity to the bill. Our weekend stays (mid-late 80s) in summer and off season cost more than your upper upper limit/night.

Also stayed at Montauk Yacht Club Hotel and while rooms are nice, they look out on the docks - not what you go to Montauk for.

Check out www.montauk-online.com for add'l ideas.

Mj, keep in mind this poster is talking about APRIL, not high season. If you're talking about Easter weekend, it might be pricier at Gurney's than your budget. IMO, unless you want the spa, no reason to stay at Gurney's. Their prices do include food allowance for lunch and/or dinner. Ocean Beach or Panoramic would be better bets. I agree with Mj, Montauk Yacht club is at the marina, not the beach so I didn't suggest it.

Last year we rented a studio apt in the condo on the beach right before you get on the Old Montauk Hiway by Lunch. They are called the Dunes I believe, it was great. Kitchen, bath and big room with bed and a terrace on the beach. It was chilly out but out of the wind it was quite pleasant. It is quiet still so you can enjoy some of the "hot" restaurants without dealing with the awful crowds of summer.
Also, right on the Old Montauk Highway is Lenhardts, you can rent for two nights, with fireplaces. And Burcliff by the Sea, they are both just past Gurneys going towards town.
We used to rent a cottage for weekends all the time, that way if it is cold, you can have a fire, you can eat out or pick up some fish at the Dock and cook it at home. April is iffy, you can get a wonderful warm day or freeze, so bring lots of clothes to layer!
Try to eat at the Dock by Gosmans Dock, if not dinner, have lunch there.
Also, if they are open, have lunch at Lunch and make it a Lobster roll, yummm.
In MOntauk, thre is a small cinema, and a great old restaurant called the Shagwong.
Have a great time!

mclaurie,
Re Gurney's: I realized "Today" was talking about April. My point, maybe not expressed well, was Gurney's is expensive - more than his/her budget - no matter what the season.

Just went to their site and rates to 4/10/03 for oceanfront rooms I stayed in are $350/night (weekend) for a double, include $25/12.50 pp dinner/b'fast allowance. Gratuity is now 18%. IMHO, Gurney's is not worth those rates.
