Molokai - East Side, West Side?

Going to Molokai in April. Realize that Molokai is not renown for its beaches, but would like to know where the best beaches are. Also can anyone recommend a place to stay?

Aloha;

We spent a couple of days on Molokai last summer. The best sandy beach we saw was in East Maui by the golf course that was closed. Unfortunately that beach is not good for swimming. But it is great for walking along. The condos on that side of the island were kind of sad looking because of the dry, unmaintained golf course (maybe it has re-opened) you may want to check on that.

There is a nice condo complex on the other side of the island called Wavecrest that is really cheap $65-85 per night for a one bedroom ocean front. Again unfortunately there is not a real swimming beach in front because of the far off reef. There is a nice beach several miles past this resort where the snorkeling is supposed to be good. We didn't actually snorkle there because the water was only about knee deep, but again the beach was nice.

We stayed in the middle of the island at the Hotel Molokai, a funky old fashioned kind of place. They still put the little piece of paper over the toilet to show it has been "sanitized". It's a great place if you're not into luxury. We paid $85 per night after the buy two get one free discount for an ocean front room. Again, not a swimming beach, but watching the local kids wind-surfing out front was great.

This is really the friendly island. We talked to more local people here then on all of the other islands combined. Make sure you go on the weekend so you can attend the entertainment at the Hotel Molokai (very good live local music).

Also check out Uncle Sean's pizza place. Excellent pizza in an unlikely location. Maybe he will give you a ride on his toy sail boat.
