Mole people in tunnels in NYC

The mole people are legitimized by Stephen Colbert in a recent interview with Jim Rogers, CEO of Duke Energy (from the Charlotte Observer):
"Rogers took the silliness in good humor, 'fessing that coal generates 70 percent of Duke's energy and his belief in global warming. He said Duke has to keep customers' lights on while figuring out how to capture the carbon dioxide that coal plants belch and store it underground.
“Under the earth?” Colbert responded. “Well, then it's the mole people's problem.”

Sorry, it took so long for another update but I lost my keyboard in the dark. There were two deaths this week.
My local Mexican restaurant has taken Chicken Mole off the menu. It seems his brother Pollo died last week and he can longer cook the dish without thinking of him.
And one of the most hated underground people died this week, Kim Jung Mole. This has caused great concern in the bordering country the South Mole.
Although it was not from his native country, he requested that O Sole Molo, be sung at his funeral.

Just imagine if the entire US had a subway system, then the mole people would be everywhere. I know that isn't PC but I just don't like big hairy moles. They are ghastly to look at and I cringe just to think of them. I think they should be removed and we should do all we can to stop them from coming back.
OK I said it, I am predjudiced against the Mole People. This is just the way I was raised, we above ground dwellers do not associate with Moles. Flame me if you wish.

to the people who can't see past their limited world of strip malls and Starbucks, your sarcasm is pathetic and I would hate to be you.To everyone else I am looking for some information. In 1965, when I was 13, I ran away from home and for a short time was living in Grand Central station where I used to panhandle for change. On November 9 of that year the electricity went out in all of New York City. It was a scary evening but for the most part people were very nice and helpful. I sat down near an area where there was usually traffic coming and going from the subways. But because people basically were stuck where they were at, there really wasn't any people going on and off from the subways. Soon came about five teenagers who I remember being dressed way more dirtier and funkier than me. Two of them approached me and wanted to know what had happened to all the electricity in Grand Central station. I told them that there was a blackout throughout the whole city and everybody was stranded for a while till they fix the problem. They were very nice and very curious about what was going on. They told me that they lived in the subway tunnels and that there was electricity down there all the time. Electricity for their light source and electricity for their heating source. The boy said the lights never go out, they are on 24/7 down there. They were concerned for their people who are living down there because the heat was out. We spoke a little while longer but then they had to go. But before they went they asked me if I wanted to join them. I kindly refused because I was fine where I was at. I would like to know if anyone has any information on who those kids were. And please don't bother making up any stories, as I'll know that you're full of crap.

Yes, there are a significant number of homeless people in NYC and some live in the tunnels under Grand Central - which is a huge area many parts of which are not used regularly.
I would assume the young people you met were runaways like yourself who had found their way into the tunnels and found them safer than living on the street.
Many of the people who live down there are either mentally ill or homeless due to alcoholism of drug abuse.
None of this is a surprise to anyone who lives in NYC - eithr the social services system or the authorities. They go through regularly and offer other options to these people but many prefer living there to living in a city shelter (largely due to their mental health/substance abuse problems).
None of this has anything to do with the "mole people" referred to - which was a troll/joke written for people's amusement. s if anyone would be so stupid to think there were "mole people" - like in a horror movie. (Other similar threads were written about Tipping the Pilot and the Vikings in Scandinavia.)

As I figured, no one has said anything to me about anything that I don't already know, or have read in a good sci-fi book. And as far as Toth's book goes, she has failed to verify information given to her by her underground friends, that she happens to be scared to death of. For example Seville stated that the 80's was the decade of the tunnels, that nobody actually started living in the tunnels until the 80s. And that in the 70s people just went down there to get high or whatever. Well I know for a fact that Seville's comment is bull crap. What an ego that guy had. As I already stated I met people in 1965 who were living under Grand Central station, and they were not scary at all. They were just a bunch of kids, like myself, that for one reason or another did not want to live above ground. I could totally relate to that, because as a runaway, I did run into some really scary people above ground.... pimps, pedophiles, married men...kind of like Mr. Latte Grande, all who would say or do anything to have sex with an under aged girl. You guys know anything about sex trafficking..... now that's some really scary stuff, and nothing like that goes on in the tunnels. People got each other's backs down there.

Not sure about the point of your posts. Obviously what you experienced 40 to 50 years ago may well not be true now. And there have been numerous stories of homesless people in NYC living all sorts of places.
The point of the original post was that some troll was afraid to come to NYC - apparently thinking that some sort of mutant people were living there. Sort of like the stories about the NY sewers being full of alligators.
Why you would come along 12 years later obsessed with this topic is a mystery.
The whole thing is decades in the past - why not just let it go?
