Misty Fjords National Monument
We're deciding on our optional excusions for our Alaska Land & Cruise Tour - wondered if anyone has taken the flight and cruise at Misty Fjords. It's very expensive and wanted to know if it was worth it.

We took the cruise/flight through Misty Fjords Monument about 3 years ago. We did it independently, not part of a cruise package deal, and got jerked around a bit by the tour operator. It's very clear they cater to the cruise line crowds and don't care for independent travelers. We booked well in advance, then a few months prior to the trip they called to tell us they were changing our trip date and couldn't get us the flight back....we would have to cruise back as well. After several discussions with them,
The weather the day we went was not the greatest...too much rain.

Sorry, accidentally hit Post Reply before I was finished. I'll continue here....
After several discussions with them, they were able to confirm the flight back. So much for customer service.
As far as the trip itself, the weather was poor the day we went. Too much rain. It really impacts the trip as the scenery is simply not as beautiful or visible as it normally would be. Even if there had not been rain (and forgiving the tour operator's poor service), I don't think the scenery is that fantastic that I would pay what they are asking for the cruise/flight. I'm fairly sure I would not take this trip again, rain or shine.

I took a flightseeing trip in May and had perfect weather. The problem with my trip was that is was my pilot's first season up there and I don't think he knew enough about the area and I was let down by the lack of information about the fjords after paying $189.00. I wondered if you could have seen better from a boat. Unfortunately, no boats were going on the day I went. I agree with the above poster that I wouldn't do this trip again. I wish I would have had time to do Tracy Arm or go whale watching with Captain Larry in Juneau. I am sure those trips would have been better. Enjoy your trip to Alaska.

We did the sea plane excursion there. I'm shaky enough about flying on jets, and believe it or not, when deciding about the excursion, it was my suggestion. Even though it was quite foggy, it was wonderful. We flew over all the glaciers and then our pilot got word that there was a pod of humpback whales in the bay. He landed the sea plane in the water so we could get out of the plane, walk out on to the pontoons and take pictures and view the whales. It was both scenic and fabulous!

While on an Alaskan cruise we took the seaplane excursion to the Misty Fjords. We didn't sign up ahead of time, just scheduled one in town when we got there. We loved it. We landed on a lake where we were the only ones there, and spent a while outside the plane on the pontoons, just listening to the quiet. It was absolutely beautiful, and we were so glad we did it.
