Before YOU as a visitor set foot into MY home state of Oregon please may I make it quite clear that local Oregonians do pronounce it orygun. We are well educated by the public system and just because something was supposedly (need to check your sources) meant to be pronounced different doesn't mean that way is correct. There are many different places where I, as a Northwest resident, have gone and found that their pronunciation is off from what I have been taught. For example go to the Southwest and keep track of the many Spanish names are not pronounced "correctly". But I do not tell the locals they say it wrong, it is their town and their turf.
Also, let me guess that you are from the eastern side since you speak so highly of their speech. I must say your bashing on my education and Missouri is shocking, but I am glad to hear that you think our state is beautiful and that you appreciate natural scenery unlike so many of your fellow easterners.
For everyone else reading this other than "relaford" please come to Oregon where you will be welcomed by some the nicest and sweetest people in the world. Oh and thank you "relaford" for helping me prove my point that some people need not be *#!@ about things.
~Sincerely an Orygonian
