Milford Plaza

So I have searched on the Milford Plaza hotel in Times Square and found everything from " a good value for the money" to "stay away from the Mildew Plaza". Has anyone had a recent experience they could share? I am looking for clean and functional - doesn't have to be the Ritz but don't want dirty or unlivable either. I have reserved the Club Level. Any help would be appreciated!

It is clean and functional. As long as your expectations are low, you'll be fine.

We stayed there a year and a half ago. Our room was large by NY standards and had just been totally renovated - new paint, carpet, bedding furniture, window coverings, etc. The bathroom had been remodeled also. Everything was clean. No problems whatsoever in spite of many negative reviews on Trip Advisor.

If your reservation is cancellable without penalty, post your travel dates and let's see if we can help you find something better. It's not a terrible place but it's not where most of us would chose to stay. Or have a look on quikbook.com and see if you can find something else that fits your budget. The Belvedere and Radio City apartments are 2 well regarded budget hotels in the same general area.

Well, at least you'll be close to all the adult book stores and strip clubs on 8th Ave.

I had British friends who were booked there for a week. They arrived and were shocked by the filthy dilapidated room. They asked to be moved. Someone showed them three other rooms, all equally bad. They tried to get a refund since this was fully prepaid. They couldn't get a penny back, but refused to stay there and gave up the entire week's cost to go find another place.

That said, I too have heard that it has since been fully remodeled and refurnished since their experience so it is not so bad, apparently. Frankly I like the location especially if you want to be in the theatre district and have access to all the 9th Avenue restaurants a block away. (Hey, it's almost the same location as the much more upscale Westin).
If you can get a good price, OK, but I've heard reports that people were paying up to $400 a night there. That simply sounds outrageous to me.

This placed used to be a total dump; has it been remodeled? I looked at the hotel's website but couldn't find a "last renovation date" or anything like that.

Patrick, when did your friends (almost) stay there? I too thought I had heard it had been updated (and let's hope cleaned) but I can't find any info on it.

That was about 5 or 6 years ago that my London friends were booked there. I think the remodeling was in the past 3 years or so.

I stayed there a year ago in February and had a nice experience.

My room was decent sized but on the small side, was nicely furnished, clean, and everything worked. I actually enjoyed my stay.

For the money I would definitely stay there again.

Ok, I was hoping you would say something like that Patrick; I was afraid that your friends were supposed to stay there AFTER the rumored remodel and I thought - oh no, it's still the Mildew Plaza! Glad to hear that they have cleaned up their act, as you stated it's a nice location if you plan on seeing a lot of theater and want to be close.

GoTravel thanks for the first hand report, happy to hear you had a good experience!

busy place.

My daughter and I stayed there last May and it was fine. The room was comparable to any I've stayed in in NYC, clean enough, and we didn't have to wait long for the elevators. My travel agent requested a remodeled room with wireless internet, so maybe we got exactly that. Can't beat the price or the location and I'll stay there again.

This is too late for the original poster, but we stayed there a couple of weeks ago and it was alright. The room was kinda small by today's standards but was clean. High speed internet access was a rip off at $11 a day if you need that, but I was able to pick up a wireless signal with no problem.
