Midtown Manhattan Hotels
My husband, son (21) and I are planning our first trip to New York in April and would like to stay in the Midtown Manhattan area. Would like to receive suggestions for hotels that you would recommend that are reasonably priced (so we could have two rooms) .
Thank you.
Thank you.

You really need to tell us 2 things:
Exact dates (Easter week rates will be much higher)
Exactly what you mean by reasonable - for each room
If you aren;t staying for too many nights you might bid Priceline for 2 rooms - if yuo are willing to be flexible about details - but I wouldn't go below 4* - since some of the ratings by Priceline seem reandom to me.

Look at the Eastgate Tower in Murray Hill (Affinia hotel group; their lowest price all suite property). You won't need two rms there. Each suite has a HUGE living room w/pullout sofa (comfortable to sleep on), and you can get two queens in the bedroom. FULL kicthen w/full size appliances. Used to be apartments. Huge suites and reasonable. I stayed there in January w/my 21 yr old son and his friend. It was perfect. Lots of good dining options on 2nd and 3rd Ave., either side of the hotel. Close to subway.

Yes, it's unreasonable to find a room for 3 people in Manhattan for $200/night in June. At that budget, you could stay just outside Manhattan in Long Island City, Brooklyn or Jersey City near a PATH train. Otherwise, you need to up the budget. The Easgate Towers can be found for $240/night plus tax on kayak.com

The Eastgate Towers is a fantatic deal for Manhattan. Granted it is an older property - but it is essentially an apartment for only $240 per night (and remember that there is tax of about 15% on top of rates quoted unless noted otherwise).
I wouldn;t want to stay outside of Manhattan - and have to trek back and forth everyday just to save a few $.

The 'trek' from the #7 train at Rawson Street (also known as 33rd Street) station in Long Island City to Grand Central Terminal is a 10 min. ride, and only a thirteen minute ride to Times Square. It can take longer than that to get to GCT from downtown Manhattan! For those on a budget, LIC hotels are a really good (and convenient) choice.

If you're committed to staying in Manhattan, try bidding for 2 rooms on Priceline. You can't have more than 2 to a room and you're only guaranteed one bed on Priceline rooms so this is a great option for your stay.
Also, check quikbook.com for secret sale hotels. There are often midtown hotels available for under $179.00 a night. Travelzoo.com also offers last minute (about a month in) hotel discounts.
Hope this helps. ~ Bow

Are you open to hostels? When we went to Europe a few years ago with our adult-ish children, we booked a private room at a hostel and let them stay in a dorm style room. That way we were all at the same place, but they could hang out with kids their age.

You can also get 2 rooms, but there's absolutely no way you can do that for a "budget" price. It would help to know the OP's budget. If it's $500 per night, well that's a different story.
The Pod Hotel might be an option. You could get one room with a private bath and one of the shared-bath rooms to save some money. Throw your son in the shared-bath room; I'm sure he can take it. Similarly, the Larchmont Hotel has at least one double and a lot of singles with shared baths, and it's in a stellar location. Another option would be a one-bedroom suite at a place like Eastgate Tower, where you could have a true one-bedroom apartment-style unit with a sofa bed for your son (and a kitchen).

Try The Beacon Hotel on the upper west side. They have fantastic suites at good prices. I stayed there last June, with four friends, in a 2 bdrm/ 2 bath suite with a full kitchen and living area. It was $525/night. They have one-bedroom suites, too.

Actually, I think you can get two rooms for about $200 each for your dates.
I just got an email from Quickbook, they have a special at the ACE Hotel in NYC for June-August. I plugged your dates of 6/3 - 6/7 in and you can get a room w/a double bed for $209. So could get two of those rooms, which seems to be your preference. Hurry though, this is a good deal and those rooms are likely going to book up quickly.

Oh, now i see this is an invitation only sale. You have to get their emails in order to get that price, if yougo on the quikbook site the rate is higher for those dates. Perhpas you can contact Quikbook and get on their emailing list pronto and get this deal. It is worth a try.
