Mid-Manhattan less than $200?

We are looking aroung for "Best Deals", and
cannot find any hotel for less than $200 per night in Mid-Manhattan. The lowest quote I got from Days Hotel is $215. Maybe we are staying during the "Peak Season"? We will be there Oct 9, 1999 - Oct 15th.
Has anyone stayed at the DoubleTree Guest Suites? I got a quote for $195, but I am not sure about the location (corner of 47th and 7th Ave).
Thank you for any help you can provide/

Try the Doral Park Avenue hotel. My wife and I stayed there for our anniversary and it is very nice and well situated. We hit a special room rate of $159.00. Give it a try.

P.S. - The Doubletree is relatively new and locatd right on Times Square. A good location if Broadway is one of your goals. Try Orso'srestaurant nearby.

As the above post mentioned the Doubletree is right at Times Square, so it's very convenient for theatre going although that area gets awfully congested. Keep checking I think you should be able to find something under $200. The Roosevelt which is a big hotel on Madison near Grand Central usually has rates around $179, but they'll probably quote you something higher at first. Also try the Helmsley Middletown on 49th-it also often has rates under $200. The Mansfield on 44th was $199 a night the last time I stayed there, but that was about a year ago. I usually get the best price quote when I call the hotel directly.

I would try the Park Central Hotel (212)247-8000. It is located on 7th Ave. at 56th St. across from Carnegie Hall and walking distance to Central Park, 5th Ave. and the theatres. They are undergoing renovations so the restaurant is closed and there is no room service (no big deal in NYC). I found this hotel through one of the internet booking discount services and stayed there in late May. The room was brand new and I only payed $139 a night. I would highly recommend this bargain!!!

I spent HOURS today, scouring the net on this same subject. One that I came across on one of the discounter sites) was the Best Western Manhattan (near the Empire State Bldg). with a quoted rate of $125-139. There was a photo on this site, which loooked pretty decent and I figured to check the BW site as well. We're going in September, and all the "summer deals" seem to expire about Labor Day.

Try the Edison 228 W 47th Street Tel (212) 840 500 or the Belvedere W 48th Street

Both are conveniently near Times Square and we got rooms for < $150 at end Sept and mid October last year.

On company $$$ I stay at the Millenium Hilton, World Trade Center, on my $$ I stay at the Belevedere, as Roger mentioned. It is convenient to Broadway. $119-$139 were rates for my last 3 stays. The Mansfield is nice, but a little pricey (for my budget) when I called last month.

Thank you all for your input.
After searching, and calling numerous places I got a quote from Days Hotel for
$165 per night. I also got a quote from
the Crowne Plaza Manhattan for $195 per night plus $20 for an extra person.
Any comments on the Crowne Plaza?
Thank you
ben
