Michelangelo or Sofitel?
My boyfriend and I are planning our very first trip to NYC in late June. I've narrowed down the hotels to the Hotel Sofitel and the Michelangelo. I can't seem to make up my mind between them!! Any insight on how these hotels compare, in terms of quality/location, would be helpful (in terms of price, they seem fairly similar). Thanks!

I have never stayed at the Sofitel, but I would guess that Michelangelo is much nicer. Michelangelo has huge rooms (unusual in NYC) very nice ammenities, marble tub, tv in bathroom, robes, bose radio, etc. Very frou-frou lobby, location close to upscale shopping. It's one of our CEO's favorite hotels, and I believe he could stay anywhere he wanted!
Have fun.
BTW, the very expensive French seafood resaturant across the street (Le Bernardine) is fantastic!

It depends what you want. They are both in very good locations (Theater district) and are close to each other. Sofitel has reasonably priced large suites. The Michaelangelo however, is much more luxurious. It is no doubt one of the best hotels in the city. Well appointed rooms, marble bathrooms with large tubs (some bathrooms even have their own TV) and it exudes sheer opulence.

I stayed at the Sheraton up the street from the Michelangelo and as soon as I saw it, I regretted not booking there! Verrrrry nice. We decided to spend the money on fancy dinners instead of a hotel and what a mistake that was! The Sheraton was so-so. It was clean, needs updating, and the bathroom was so small the toilet was a few inches from the tub! It would have been SO nice to go back to a room in The Michelangelo after all that walking and shopping and just lounge in sheer luxury. We are going back in June and we already booked the Michelangelo. Trust me, spend the money on a luxurious hotel and eat in the wonderful deli's and small resteraunts in and around Broadway & Times Square. The Michelangelo was about 2 blocks south of Times Square and about 2 blocks east of 5th Ave. Go for it!

Thank you very much for your advice! How could we not book the Michelangelo! We're so very excited about our trip, and, thanks in part to your help, it will likely be a terrific adventure. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!
Very appreciative,
Jaime
