Can anybody tell me how the rooms are at either of these hotels? NYNY sounds interesting and I have found some good rates on one of the petite suites at the MGM. I will be going to Vegas with my husband next April and prefer a place without a lot of kids.

Unfortunately, kids are unavoidable at every hotel. However, I've found the MGM & NYNY to be overly kid friendly. Try the Mandalay Bay if you want that end of the strip.

I just got back from NY NY last week and felt that my room was fine. I was up on the 27th floor and had a corner room with a great room of the Eiffel Tower and other landmarks. Just be sure to reserve a room away from the roller coaster (something I learned the hard way on a previous visit). As for the MGM, I don't like the huge casino that you have to fight your way through to get out of the hotel. And the Mandalay Bay actually has wave machines in their pool area and attracts a lot of kids.

The Monte Carlo is a smoke free hotel. Always very clean and very few children.

I've stayed at both and like both of them. But, definitely get a room away from the roller coaster at NYNY! NYNY is a little bit newer than the MGM, but rooms are nice at both places.

The MGM is wonderful. My first time there, I stayed in one of their basic rooms in the Emerald tower. It was a small, but very clean room. A few weeks ago, we booked there again, but a friend of ours who works there upgraded us to a suite (don't know if it was a petite suite - if it was, it was anything but petite) and it was a fabulous room on the 28th floor with a view of NYNY, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, etc. Anyhow, both of my experiences at the MGM have been great. Yes, it's huge, but I'm amazed how well it's run and how clean it is for a hotel that large. To get opinions from some real Vegas pros, check out and read their hotel reports or go to their message boards and post your question. Good luck.

I've never stayed at NYNY but I have seen many posts and heard from many people all with the same above suggestion to be sure and get a room away from the roller coaster. As everyone becomes aware of that problem, I wonder what time you have to check in to be assured of such a room -- I'd think soon everyone will know to request that. I'd avoid the hotel all together unless they are willing to guarantee you a room away from the roller coaster at time of booking, which I would doubt they can really do.
Just a thought.
