Hello everyone, I am wondering which one would you choose for a vacation Mexico or Hawaii? If Mexico, which part of Mexico would you recommend is best when it comes to Honeymoon, romantic getaway? and Hawaii vice versa?
And what time of the year is cheapest?

I would choose Mexico-probably La Casa que Canta in Zihuatanejo. Don't know about prices/seasons but probably cheapest in summer when it would be very hot. Why? Closer (less travel time) but feels more foreign. I like Mexican food/culture. But what I'd like & what you'd like are probably different.

You would get more useful info if you told us more about what you and your fiance like & what time of year you'd prefer getting married and BUDGET.

Everyone wants to know how to save a few bucks rather than how to enjoy a great time.
Hawaii is very expensive as is/are Los Cabos.
There are great places in MX if you can speak or try to speak the wonderful Spanish language, and don't need the Gringo beaches all/every day. Inexpensive places to stay and great food are abundent, and the local folks outside the major cities are wonderful - most in the big places are fine too.

Almost every time I've been to mexico I leave swearing I'll never go back. Then I seem to find another place to try and become curious, only to be disappointed. mexico just isn't my style at all.
Hawaii, on the other hand, has something for all tastes in my opinion. Simply need to find the island(s) that fit your style.
For a honeymoon? Hawaii, no contest.

A lot of newlyweds I know are choosing Cancun for their honeymoon. When I asked why, the answer was because they can get more pampering for their buck in Mexico. I enjoy the Yucatan Peninsula for the fine white sand beaches and just laying around on the beach. We like a simple resort like Las Palapas near Playa Del Carmen:

But we really love Hawaii (especially Kauai) because of the lush natural beauty, the green, the scented air, the flowers. The local people there do not live in the abject poverty you tend to see in some of the cities in Mexico. You don't have to worry about getting sick from drinking the water or eating the food. Lastly, it's a little more comfortable traveling in the States where I can speak my own language.

I lived in Hawaii and was later married in Cozumel. While I love Hawaii, I like Mexico very very much. Hawaii is much more lush, beautiful, and part of the US. However, Mexico is much closer (for most), cheaper (more bang for your buck), and you experience a culture not found in US. PS: If your water people, the diving/snorkeling in Cozumel is truly first class. Fro Mexico, try Cozumel or the Playa Del Carma (sp?) area.

Mexico is about as diverse geographically as you can imagine. Calm tranquil crystal clear caribbean waters to angry rough Pacific ocean water.

I love all of Mexico. Just the feel, the mountains, the oceans, the people, the smells, the diversity, the langauge, the sounds, etc.

I haven't been to that new chi chi resort One and Only or something other but Las Ventantas is hard to beach in Cabo.

That's the Palmilla...owned by "One and Only Resorts", who also operate the Ocean Club in the Bahamas, and a couple other very nice places in the Maldives and Dubai. A very, very slick operation. Top notch all the way.
We stayed at las Ventanas a couple years back and loved the resort, but not the towns. Without going into details my frustrations with Mexico are the same ones Maggi listed.

It's a matter of taste, but personally, I *FAR* prefer Mexico to Hawaii, and no small part of it is that I like not being gouged on prices for everything under the sun. (Not to mention that places like Cancun are a 2-hour flight from much of the southeastern U.S., Los Cabos an hour from southern California, Mazatlan an hour flight from major U.S. hubs like Dallas & Houston, while Hawaii is a long and usually expensive flight.)

With all the diversity in different Mexican resorts, I just can't see spending more time and money for the added hassel factor, but that's just me.

For a honeymoon, I'd probably head to someplace along the Mayan Riviera --- maybe one of those glitzy AI places that I totally hate but that would leave me not really wanting to go traveling off site too much...

I think most Americans feel more comfortable with the familiarity of language and just the hint of the exotic in Hawaii, but if you like to travel and experience different cultures, Mexico can be wonderful.
I am completely taken with Mexico's charm and flavor, and there are plenty of wonderful hotels in this country.
(I would suggest avoiding Cabo San Lucas though; it really does not "feel" like Mexico, IMHO.)

In terms of when to go to Mexico, we went last November to Acapulco. While the prices suggest it is their low season, the weather was spectacular.

If you looking for a good combination of night life and beaches, the Acapulco isn't a bad choice. Through Continental Vacations, we were able to get a fairly good deal on both airfare (from NY) and the Hyatt Hotel.

I agree with the consensus that Mexico is a better choice - especially for someone who specifically mentioned that cost is a factor.

prettyinpink, low season in Caribbean Mexico begins just after Easter and lasts until late November.

You have a vast variety of places to stay in either small interesting towns or the mega feel of Cancun.

We have stayed in five star hotels like the Ritz Carlton for $200 and change per night, and then there are places like Maroma and Interconti's Paraiso Bonita that are more, and super AI's like Royal Hideaway for all-out pampering in an amazing resort.

I've never even considered Hawaii due to my living on the East coast and not having any desire to deal with the cost/benefit issue. (But I'm sure it is amazing - I just like my water WARM when I go diving!)

Playa del Carmen is a good choice as it has a lot to offer, and while not as authentic an experience as some of the smaller towns on the coast, there are a lot of places to stay, eat and choose from see and do.

Forget both & go to Belize.

Looks like we are going to Mexico, I have been to Hawaii in the Island of Oahu? we stayed with a friend and it was fun, though we did not have to pay for lodging I still spent a lot of money just going around. I live in Northern California so Mexico would not be too far, I am thinking of Cancun because we saw a documentary of Yucatan peninsula on the Travel Channel and me and my bf loved it!

May I suggest Playa del Carmen? It's far enough outside Cancun and still has great Mexican charm.

Cozumel is a 45 minute ferry ride and Cancun is a 45 minute taxi ride.

You aren't very far from the spectacular ruins of Tuluum.

Personally, I would plant my butt under a palapa and order festive concoctions in coconut husks with umbrellas in them all day.

Another vote for Playa del Carmen. We were there in April. We did the ruins trip to Tulum and a day trip to Cozumel. The best part was sitting under a palapa while they bought me boat drinks and reading a good book.
