Mexican Hat Utah

Any ideas on where to stay in Mexican Hat? Plan on starting early from Las Vegas, doing all of our stops then possibly ending here the first night. Don't mind the long drive into the evening and want to get miles on. Otherwise the stop for the night will be Page, AZ. Thanks.

Hi dillysnan
I went through(Mexican Hat)there two years ago I thought what a dump. I would go up 163/191 to Bluff or Blanding but those places are not much either. Blanding is a DRY town! The good news is it is very pretty through there.

Have Fun

We stayed at the San Juan Inn last year. After seeing the other motels in Mexican Hat we were glad we chose this one. It is nothing fancy, but was very clean and inexpensive. I would recommend a reservation. We were there in late May and it was full. There were many people staying there who were river rafting.

San Juan Inn is correct, clean and quiet, but in this area the best choice is Recapture Lodge in Bluff : good rate,
clean, quiet and an "atmosphere"...
There is also a swimming pool.
It's only 30 miles from Mexican hat and so the distance is not a problem. It's one of our base when visiting the four corners area...

Last fall, we stayed at this wonderful bed and breakfast which is located right in the Valley of the Gods, a few miles from Mexican Hat. The house is amazing and the views are unbelievable. The Moki Dugway is just above the B&B. We loved it. Here's the link.

You might want to check out Goulding's Lodge located just outside of Monument Valley between Kayenta, AZ and Mexican Hat. Monument Valley is spectacular at dawn. A number of the John Wayne movies were filmed there and the cast stayed at Goulding's. Check out www.gouldings.com.

Sure Goulding's is the best spot in the area for the view, but prices are different...Last year in summer(high season), a room at Gouldings was at 115 $ and a room at recapture lodge at...
53 $...When we are in the region, as it's one of our favorite location we try a "mix" 2 nights at Gouldings and 2 nights at recapture and so the average rate is not so bad...

Just jumping in here to echo the sentiments about Mexican Hat -- it IS a dump. Try to avoid it if at all possible.
