Mexican Food in Village

Sorry if this double posts -- technical difficulties caused by operator error! Let me apologize for the vagueness of my question in advance! Last spring my husband and I walked all over the village. For dinner we stopped at a wonderful Mexican restaurant with really good guacamole served in big stone bowls shaped like bulls. Believe me, it tasted better than it sounds! After we ate we jumped in a cab and went back to the hotel. Now we're headed back for a long weekend in Feb. and I just have to eat here again. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the restaurant or really even where it is located. I'm only guessing the Village because that is where we started our wandering. I'm sorry this is so vague! If I don't find out where it is I'm afraid I'll be dragging my husband all over Manhatten asking Mexican restaurants how they serve their gaucamole! For his sake, if you have any guesses, let me know!

Actually, many Mexican restaurants in Manhattan make their quacamole in stone/mortar-pestle sort of bowls.
You may have to give more clues.
Good luck.

And if you want to impress your server, the four-legged lava rock bowl is called a molcajete.

I'm still shocked you found good Mexican food in Manhattan. That's the one cuisine I've consistently been disappointed in when I've tried it there (they try, but...). When you do find this place, please please let me know!!!

And they make it fresh at your table?
Sounds like Dos Caminos Soho, on Houston I believe. They also have
a location on 7th Ave. And I agree,
it's delicious and I normally don't even like guacamole.

The amazing thing to me has always been that folks seek Mexican food in Manhattan.
I'm still convinced the mamas in the state of Guanajuato are the very best regional cooks, but it's difficult for a gringo to get an invitation.
Please come visit central/Colonial MX for the real deal.

mikemo: You're right, of course, but if I really need a fix of oaxaqueña comfort food (sometimes you just need guajalote en mole!!), I can't get down to Oaxaca as easily as you can. Thank goodness for La Guelaguetza here in LA!!
