Metra $5 weekend pass

For those of you interested in Chicago on a weekend, you might not be aware of the Metra's $5 weekend pass. Five bucks can take you to Kenosha Wisconsin, Ravinia for a concert, all of Chicago, Arlington Park Racetrack, and a million other places.

Thanks for that tip! Where you purchase the pass?

Faye,

You just buy it on the train. Fare is good every weekend, very good deal.
The fare is good ALL weekend you can take the train in, stay over in the city and return the next day.

I'm not sure if this is the same $ if you buy it on the train. I know from Tinley Park and on my line the service changed a couple of months ago. Now the fares are MORE if you buy them on the train. The base prices are always standard if you buy them AT the station window before you board.

The $5.00 Weekend Pass may be the exception, but for all other or 1 way fares you need to buy them before you board for the best price. And in some cases (depending on distance etc.)you may be better off buying a round trip for a certain trip or outing.

If you are coming/going to many venues from the downtown outward/back over a weekend then the $5.00 is a great deal.

Don't forget, up to three kids 11 and under can ride FREE with each fare-paying adult, including those using weekend passes. Any day, now through labor day. Go to www.metrarail.com to order a summer fun guide with maps, coupons, etc.
