Mendocino B&B's

My husband and I have less than a week in the San Fran area and would like to spend the majority of the time up in Mendocino. Any recommendations on the following accomodations in Mendocino:

1) Alegria
2) Joshua Grindle House
3) Beggs-Bishop Cottage

Also, is it better to drive straight up to Mendocino or should we stay in a different town on the way up?

Thanks,
Carol

My husband and I stayed at the Headlands Inn (in 1995)- they have a main house and then a cottage out back that was very private. (We stayed in the cottage.) Very nice and the food was great. They brought breakfast to our room each morning. Mendocino is a wonderful, romantic, quaint place!!

Also stayed at the Headlands Inn, also loved it. (Sorry, I know it's not on your list.)
Anyway, I would recommend drivng up in one day, but I hate heights, so the drive was a nightmare for me, and I just wanted it *over.*

Joshua Grindle is wonderful--highly recommend it. If you wanted to save a bit of time or if the weather is less than nice you could come up 101 and then cut over 128 through Boonville, a strange little town but fun for lunch.

Hi Carol, after hours of surfing the net, I made reservations at Alegria. This will be for 2 nights in June on our way to Napa/Sonoma. The hostess (can't recall her name at the moment) was so nice over the phone and she took the time to put some pictures of the cottage in an E-mail and send them to me. If you'd like, I can E-mail them to you.
