Mendocino
Looking for a great place to stay either in Mendocino or a bit north of town. We are not into floral wallpaper and antiques. Modern and clean. I have heard the MacCallum Suites is excellent. Any other suggestions. Under 400/night
Thanks in Advance.

It is hard not to go Victorian in Mendocino. Are MacCallum Suites the cottages on the MacCallum House property? If so, I don't think they are modern, but I am not sure.
You might look at Blackberry Inn. www.blackberryinn.biz (western town motif) or Pine Beach Inn (5 miles north towards Ft. Bragg) www.pinebeachinn.com.
More luxurious is the Stanford Inn by the Sea & Spa. www.stanfordinn.com.

The Joshua Grindle is early American/Colonial in style, some antiques but definitely more spare in feel. I've stayed here and can recommend it. I was also checking to see what's new in Mendocino for an upcoming trip and noticed that the John Dougherty has taken over the Packard House whose furnishings appear more modern.

Though my DH & I enjoy the B&B's in Mendocino and Fort Bragg, one our favorite places to stay is the Harbor Lite Lodge overlooking the Noyo Harbor. Though very simple, the rooms are large and clean and have balconys from where you can watch the boats coming & going & listen to the seals bark all night long. This is an inexpensive place to stay compared to the B&B's, but we have always enjoyed it.
