Memorial Day question

Hello everyone - we are flying over from England to Boston tomorrow and I've just realised that it is Memorial Day weekend. Can I ask a dumb question please? What impact will this have on our trip? Will tourist sites be open on Monday? I guess places (and especially roads) will be busier, will this be just for the weekend, or all through the following week?

Thanks

MR

Many places do close for Memorial day, but most tourist attractions and retail shops will be open.

The following week will not be affected at all. Traffic in Boston is lighter now that all the college students are off for the summer!
Since you ask about roads, I must ask -- are you visiting Boston itself, or the surrounding area? You will not need a car IN Boston, as we have a good public transport system and driving is as bad as in London.

Thanks Anonymous - I've heard quite a lot about the driving conditions in Boston and we are only hiring our car when we leave, to travel up into Maine for a few days.

Monday is a public holiday so post offices, banks and regular public buidlings will be closed. Most stores will be open - as should the hisotric sites.

MagicRat, greetings from North Carolina! So glad you're coming over to spend time on this side of the pond. Hope you will have a wonderful time! Are you planning to spend all your time in New England (which is wonderful - some family there), or will you be coming on down South to spend time in "God's land?" If not, do plan to come down and have barbeque and sweet tea with us NEXT time! Have a safe trip........

I think it might be a great time to see some old fashioned American holiday celebrating..flags out, families getting together, small towns and some large ones have parades.
We always found the worst traffic to be the night before and the last day of any holiday in NYC..probably the same in Boston..Have a great holiday~
