May 2012 Events

So many things go on in NYC during May that are off the beaten tourist track. I've just written a post for a few of the many events that are going on May 5th and 6th. Feel free to add to the list!

May 23-30 is Fleet Week - thousands of sailors, marines and coast guards from a host of ships. If you'll be here then check out the activities - esp the parade of ships.

If you are in a bar on May 5th, late afternoon, be sure to watch the Kentucky Derby. Most sports bars will at least change the channel on one of their screens.

Great list, Sue, thanks! I'll be spending the day on Sunday at the annual Hoboken Arts & Music Festival just over the river (http://theboken.com/hoboken-headline...2012-11am-6pm/). But maybe I can squeeze in at least one of these great walking tours you've listed!

By then, if/when I get up my courage, I am going to start early morning (7AM ) Times Square walks on Tues and Wed -- the first couple of weeks will be free so hopefully my favorite travel forums won't mind me mentioning them when it happens. I want to meet some of the people I've been chatting with all these years and get some feedback. While I agree that Times Square should be "experienced" at night, the only time to see it is in the morning before the craziness begins. Then the ins and outs of the side streets and the paths (subways and buses) to the rest of the City become more obvious.

Oh no, Sue, that's terrible about your wrist! Not much of a weekend weather-wise after all, though that's small consolation.

Your early a.m. Times Square walks sound great! I agree that's the best time of day to see the area. (These days I avoid traversing TS at all costs if I'm actually trying to get anywhere with alacrity...)

Here's to quickly healing!!

Not just the Times Square for early morning walks. That time of the day all over Manhattan is an absolute visual joy.
