I have not been to Maui in 15 years. Last time I stayed at Hyatt. Loved the breakfast in Swan court restaurant. But, I think at the time Marriott had just redone their pool. Everyone raved?

Where would you suggest to stay in Maui with kids ages 8 and 5? I'd love a suite. But, pricing may not allow.

I do not want to do a time share whee we have to buy food. From my experience it was expensive grocery shopping. I'd rather just enjoy vacation where I don't have to cook.

I don't understand. You don't HAVE TO cook. Even in a condo/timeshare, you can eat out every meal if you choose to. I like staying in a condo/timeshare because I like having a living room.

We (six people in my extended family) rented a condo in Wailea last year for four nights. It was really nice having space to spread out. We did cook a couple of meals, but mostly used the kitchen for making coffee and having somewhere to store drinks and snacks. Unless you want a hotel with a breakfast buffet, a condo can be a good choice, especially when traveling with kids.

We stayed at the Marriott in Wailea recently, and walked by/through all the hotels on the beach path. Both the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons had lots of kids at the pool and were lovely hotels (we didn't see the rooms, but saw the public areas including the pools). The Marriott seemed to have fewer kids, but the main pool was closed for renovation, so hard to tell. The Hyatt Andaz had some, but not as many as the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons.

(If you do go, I recommend Monkeypod Kitchen. It's a Merriman restaurant, good food, family friendly. We had a non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner there).

It would be much easier to answer this if we knew what that meant. What's your budget range for a hotel?

We had a condo and did not cook a thing (toast and coffee does not count, cooking is turning on a stove). It would be handy to have a washer and dryer with kids, hotels really sock it to you on laundry fees, and not sure if Maui has a fluff and fold.

And in a condo, kids nap when you want, in a separate room, not around a cleaning schedule.

Not just nap - sleep too. Kids go to bed, parents don't have to.

I would definitely recommend a hotel in the Wailea area. The Marriott and Grand Wailea are both great, and Wailea beach is absolutely beautiful. We have stayed in both of these hotels with our four kids, and they have had a blast in each. The pools of the Grand Wailea were definitely a plus Also, there are plenty of great restaurants to eat out at in the hotels and in Wailea.

For just about same cost u can rent a condo. MORE room and washer and dryer and if nothing else breakfast and snacks. I agree food is outrageous and at times cheaper to eat out sometimes but having a bedroom with a child is pretty important Can't give recommendations as I never go to That island but I would seriously reconsider looking for condo

As your pricing may not allow a suite, I suggest that a lot of the hotels mentioned above may be at the high end of your range.
Wailea is lovely, maybe a condo there?
We stayed at Grand Champions, once, and got a very good deal on clean and decent lodging, though not 'luxurious'.
You could also check out Makena Beach Resort. It's quiet (maybe too quiet for you, but we like it), only about 2 miles past Wailea, with a great, uncrowded beach, with snorkeling. And cheaper than Wailea hotels.
