I have started to book dinners/activities/excursions for Maui! I am getting so excited, and it is still six months away. I thought I would share the information.

All of the activities below are things we want to do, but haven't booked. I heard that there are 2-for-1 and 50% off coupons everywhere, but I just don't know what they are coupons for. Should I wait until we get to Maui to book the activities below so that I can use coupons? Are there usually 'deals' on any of the activites?

Although I'm not sure if restaurants will take reservations 6 months in advance, I would book any of the top places a couple months before you go. Restaurants like Mama's Fishhouse, Roy's, Sansei, etc, are all great, and can fill up. I would especially make a reservation if you'll be there for dinner on your first night. Since you're at the Whaler, there are nice places nearby.

On a personal note, we usually like to book about half our dinners, then we have a little freedom on the other nights.

There are certainly lots of info on Maui restaurants here if you do a search. Have a wonderful time.

If you want to do the zip line you need to book this at least 2 weeks in advance. We, unfortunately waited and couldn't find a day that all 6 of us could go, let alone at a desireable time.

Having been to Maui many times over 15 years, I have seen a remarkable proliferation of "activities". Remember, these are people who devised a method to make money to allow them to live in Hawaii. They are not generally cultural, or traditional, or necessary , in my opinion. They are just to separate you from your money. There are plenty of wonderful activities on Maui and many wonderful places to visit that don't require speedboats or helicopters, or ATV's, or anything else other than the blissful sun and water. I sense that Maui is turning into a Puerto Vallarta carnival atmosphere where tourists are efficiently separated from their money, because "that's what you do on Maui." Leave yourself some time to relax.

Ag3046 – Thanks for the advice. Don’t worry; I am planning down time too – just sitting at the pool or beach.

I'm glad to hear that you are planning downtime. If this is your first trip, rememeber it will be your FIRST of many trips probably (I think I'm about to embark on my 15th or something like that) and don't feel like you have to do everything.

We are going to Maui for a week next month. We are staying in Makena. The only two big things we have planned are an overnight trip to Hana and a day trip up to Lahaina and Kaanapali to see family that will be up there. That's it! That's enough! The rest of it will fall into place and will probably be centered around being beach slugs and enjoying an oceanfront house with hot tub with killer views.

I agree that you should not try to do everything. We have been to Maui many times and still have so many things left to see and do. What seems to work the best for us is to plan ahead for an activity every other day. Our best Maui trips have been the ones where we're not having to be places at a certain time.
